Ukrainian saber fencer, 2008 Olympic champion Olha Kharlan spoke out against the participation of Russian athletes in the Olympic Games and other international competitions in any status.

She reminded that more than 370 Ukrainian athletes were killed after the full-scale invasion. Olga says: when "the whole world is watching the war, most countries support Ukraine and help us fight evil, and the IOC simply allows this evil to be part of the Olympic Games."

"It makes you want to yell and ask lots of questions: "Why is this so? Why do people who march in military parades, receive orders from murderous generals, have the right to be among the world's elite of sports?" But it won't help. Actions will help. We will do our best to get the athletes, the national committee, and other countries to join in to cancel this shameful decision. And the Paris Games will become a place of fair competition for a medal, not another foothold for Russia," Kharlan said.

On December 8, the International Olympic Committee decided to allow athletes from Russia and Belarus to participate in the 2024 Paris Olympics in a neutral status.
