Chose to listen to “Preserving Black History and Culture Through Literature” on https://t.co/LTaqiSWKfX . I chose to listen to this because having black history in literature is important. These writings are ways our ancestors tell us their stories without their voice. #EH204

Carr also highlights “the golden age” of journalism. He believes that because of the advancement of technology such as digital recordings everything is easier to edit and distribute. #EH204

Carr explains how appealing it is for company’s to not defend themselves with the example about the Gannet’s bonuses . While explaining this story he realizes different ways to handle different types of articles. #EH204

Carr word choice is unique. Even though he is a professional journalist his language is different. He uses words like “gooey” and says phrases like “I could snap somebody’s career in half like a dry winter twig.”, while also using words like “ preposterous” and “scabrous”. #EH204

Currently listening to the Terry Gross interview with David Carr. At the beginning of the interview he talks about the power of social media, specifically Twitter. Even though he found Twitter being “the dumbest thing in the world.” He realized how to use it as a tool. #EH204

I realize reading tool #39 that I enjoy looking to the future at the end of books. Most endings focus on the past, or plainly, just end the story.If I could see what the future holds I would leave the writing with some excitement for what’s to come. Even if I can’t see it #EH204

Would love to include a “payoff ending” in one of my writings. May not be a happy ending but a completed one. This will allow my readers to leave the piece satisfied. Thanks for coming on the journey 🙂 #EH204

Also learning distance is a big factor in what the director or writer is trying to do. Middle distance shows key people and their interaction. Close up shows emotion like anger, fear, sadness. Extreme close up focuses on important small details we wouldn’t see otherwise. #EH204

Reading tool #34 learning about different cinematic angles. Learned Establishing shot is when the writer stands back and captures where everything is taking place. Creating a mood for the story.

FEAR is present everywhere! Coates explains fear was around him as a child’s.Then later explains how his parents feared for his life, not only within the streets but the police. What has changed? Even today we still face the same fears. #EH204

“All you have is your dignity” said by Coates. This statement touched me as he explains his suspension from school because a teacher yelled at him out of disrespect. Growing up in the environment he grew up in when dignity and respect is threatened many retaliate.#EH204

Listening to this interview, it’s hard to imagine growing up in the Baltimore streets as a young black man. Ta-Nehisi Coates explains rules he had to follow just to survive. The simple act of walking to school could be stressful! #EH204
