One treatment. 3 months later, the benefits persisted.
A new real-world study from Oregon's regulated psilocybin program followed 346 adults treated in state-licensed centers and found striking improvements in mental health:
Depression symptoms: 42.2% at baseline -> 10.6% at 1 month -> 16.5% at 3 months
Anxiety symptoms: 45.1% at baseline -> 11.9% at 1 month -> 13.2% at 3 months
PTSD symptoms: 48.0% at baseline -> 19.4% at 1 month -> 16.8% at 3 months
Well-being + life satisfaction also increased.
This wasn't years of weekly talk therapy or daily pill-popping. It was 1 supervised psilocybin session costing roughly $700–$3,000, with benefits lasting at 3 months. Treatments are not without risks, but can be life-saving for some.
Study details and news coverage are below.
60 Minutes joined U.S. veterans with PTSD as they attended a weeklong psychedelic retreat in Mexico. Nearly a year later, most of the vets say the experience with psilocybin was life-changing.
Nearly a year after attending a psychedelics retreat, eight of the nine veterans told 60 Minutes their symptoms improved and called their experience “life-changing.” One veteran said the treatment worsened his condition. https://t.co/aUfE1n27f9

Johns Hopkins Research Study about Psychedelic Experiences Among Veterans
Researchers at the Johns Hopkins Center for Psychedelic & Consciousness Research (CPCR) are seeking volunteers for a ~15 minute survey study about psychedelic experiences among veterans. (Note: if you completed a similar survey approximately 6 months ago, please DO NOT fill out the current survey).

Sunstone's CEO, Manish Agrawal, joined @ShereefElnahal and fellow panelists @julianamercer, @gjurvetson, and Riaz Valani at the #ViVe Conference in Nashville to discuss the potential benefits of psychedelic-assisted therapies for Veterans' mental health.
To ensure safe access to these treatments, this type of discussion and collaboration between healthcare providers, researchers, veterans' advocates, and policymakers--while recognizing the critical role of philanthropists and investors–-is necessary.
Please take a moment to watch this incredibly moving 60 Minutes segment following 9 veterans who sought psychedelic therapy abroad through the amazing work of Heroic Hearts. This show has been nearly a year in the making.
It’s astonishing; most of these vets were suicidal going in, and nearly a year later, they are not.
Our new leadership at HHS, the VA, & FDA have an unprecedented opportunity to expand access to these life-saving treatments within the VA and beyond.
While Anderson highlights that veterans may have to wait years for this healing, the truth is: there are pathways that could open access today — with the stroke of a pen.
I’m hopeful that our new administration will act now so that our veterans no longer have to leave the country to receive the care they need for the wounds they endured in service to us all.
