Miller’s argument was straightforward: Illegal immigrants do not live in the shadows; they hold accounts and receive wage deposits.
By cutting off these services, "self-deportation" becomes the rational choice.
The Treasury has issued new guidelines to banks. The next step involves individual reviews to remove ineligible customers.
Institutions are being instructed to verify identity and legal status with the DHS (Department of Homeland Security), treat unconfirmed status as high-risk, and stop extending credit to the population subject to deportation.

The second major blow concerns remittances. Officials are blocking the channels used to send U.S.-earned wages abroad. Proponents of the "America First" policy point to the sheer scale of these sums: roughly 5% of Mexico’s GDP, 27% of Nicaragua’s, 26% of Honduras’s, 24% of El Salvador’s, and 20% of Guatemala’s—amounting to approximately $130 billion leaving the United States annually.

Census-based analyses already show a 2.9 million reduction in the foreign-born population since January 2025, marking a negative net migration balance for the first time since the 1930s. If this pace continues, projections indicate a drop of nearly 15.3 million by January 2029.
