i see people are upset that elon didn't generate his wealth the right way, drawing a 7 figure annual salary from a prestigious washington dc based ngo with a 25% program expense ratio
No, you don't get it.
He does not have $1 trillion sitting in cash, it is 99% stock in his companies.
To make that wealth liquid would mean selling all that stock which would swiftly destroy *both* the companies (Tesla, SpaceX, others) and the wealth. If he sold it all, he'd end up with maybe $100b max, several hundred thousand people would be out of work, the companies ruined and many of their suppliers also ruined.
Okay, but now Elon has $100b in cash, and can "solve the world's problems".
$100b divided by the world's 8 billion people is $12
If you were in charge, several of the most innovative industrial companies in the world would be destroyed, hundreds of thousands out of work, and space would again close to human civilization for another generation.
But everyone on earth could have one nice meal and you could revel in your altruism.
American “Pride” students and people standing up for “Palestine” but when asked, still have no idea what they are standing up for.
I would normally suggest this is staged.
But it’s not.
I unfollowed her today. I should’ve done it a long time ago, and I have overlooked quite a few red flags from her, but I kept telling myself that she is an important and effective voice for a cause that I believe in. And she is, and I hope she will continue to be. But she’s also pretty gross. And I don’t need to follow gross people.
The reason CA is so fucked is the stupid-smart people like this who pretend to not understand that homeless people aren’t voting. They’re having their ballots commandeered by scammers. He knows that 60K homeless drug addicts didn’t suddenly commit to civic engagement.
Voter rolls in LA country increased by 691,000 people since 2018 despite the county losing 366,600 residents…
I can understand why people have serious questions about ballot harvesting, voter registration, and election results in LA county.
Why should you be treated as something you are not in the eyes of the law? I genuinely do not understand these this argument. You know, and have acknowledged, that you are not a woman as it has been defined throughout time immemorial. Why wouldn’t it be sufficient for society to accept you for what you are: a nonconforming man? To have your rights and safety protected to dress and make believe as you wish? What do you lack within that social and legal contract?
The data out of Oregon really are astonishing.
A phenomenon once observed in about 1 in 20,000 adult men and 1 in 50,000 adult women (DSM-5) is now being diagnosed and medically treated in at least 1 in 250 17-year-old girls in Oregon.
@ImBreckWorsham It won’t matter. You’re a useful idiot who regurgitates taqiyya. Conservatives, innoculate your kids against the brain rot that this woman spreads.
Fifty-nine years ago today, an American Naval vessel, the USS Liberty, was attacked by air and sea by the State of Israel.
Of the 234 men on the ship, 34 Americans were killed. 171 were wounded.
Today, Thomas Massie will take to the House floor to memorialize the worst interpretation of the event, an interpretation that suggests Israel attacked the American ship on purpose and that our own government either coordinated with them to do, or is complicit in the cover up.
The USS Liberty has become a rallying cry for many of the worst voices in public life. From the Groyper Wars against Charlie Kirk, to Tucker Carlson’s blackpill-and-despair political project, to Candace Owens’ global jihad of grift and Jew hared, the Conspiracy Theories surrounding the USS Liberty have become one of the most respectable ways to advance anti-Israel and anti-American sentiment.
But what really happened on that terrible day in 1967?
How can we know what’s true?
And what does it mean for us six decades later?
Conspiracy Theorists love to overwhelm you with the sheer volume of their claims, but there are 8 claims which makeup the core of the argument.
We thoroughly address those eight in this episode, and shine a light on the phenomena that undergird these Conspiracy Theories in the first place.
Here's an honest accounting of what happened on June 8, 1967, and how — and why — bad actors are lying to you about it:
Agreed (I think— I keep taking myself in and out of what I think about this😅). I think your framing is more effective so thank you for that. I won’t use that argument again, because I agree— it’s not useful nor is it literally true (“whatever we collectively say it is”).
But Mormons and those sympathetic to their argument see this as a pebble/stone question. Those who are declaring them as not Christian see it as a rock/number question. I’m not sure where you go from there. The fact that “who is a real Christian” has been hotly debated for thousands of years and NEVER settled is a pretty clear indicator of which it is in my mind, but obviously it’s not as clear to others 🤣 so here we are.
I appreciate the comment! I actually love pedantic tangents! Perhaps you can help me get clarity on your position, because I’ve been making a similar argument to what I’m making here about “feminism“. Many second wave feminist want to say that third wave feminists aren’t “real” feminists, and vice versa. This seems fruitless since there is nothing “real” underpinning the word feminism. It is a collection of ideas which can and does evolve, and upon which not everyone agrees.
We see a rock, and we give it a name. Changing what we call that thing doesn’t change what that thing is. (Female as another example.).
I don’t see how that applies to something like feminism or Christianity. Help me out here.
@AThinksAloud I do see what people say about evangelicals, yes. And I see you defending against it and pushing back, too. Same same. And while you might not be personally offended when people insult evangelicals, I see plenty who are. Same same.
@AThinksAloud OH!! And by the way! We already have perfectly good words for each of these things if people would stop trying to pretend otherwise:
Institutional racism.
Third wave feminism.
Non-creedal Christian.
There are two better analogies for what we’re seeing:
What “racism” means and who gets to call themselves a feminist.
Racism is widely understood to mean prejudice based on race. But there is a large academic debate about whether white people can be racist IF you define racism as prejudice plus institutional power. And the bottom line is that if you go and poll people on what racism is the vast vast majority are going to say the first one, unless they’re trying to serve some political purpose. And the second people always pretend like everyone agrees with them. They don’t. And if you talk to people in real life, that’s obvious.
Within the gender critical movement, there are a great deal of second wave feminists that are incredibly butthurt that third wave feminism is a thing. Many of them even say that third wave feminists can’t call themselves feminist, despite the fact that the vast majority of feminist institutions, feminist thinkers, and feminist discourse is from third wave feminist. Again, if you were to poll people, the vast vast vast majority would say that third wave feminists are feminists. I can understand the argument and have sympathy for the argument that they are not, but it’s simply impossible to pretend like there is an objective, widely agreed-upon definition of feminism that excludes third way feminists. Unlike “woman,” what we call “feminism” is made up, so defending those boundaries is a waste of time and serves no purpose.
