Ages of Founding Fathers in 1776:
James Monroe, 18
Aaron Burr, 20
John Marshall, 20
Alexander Hamilton, 21
James Madison, 25
John Jay, 30
Thomas Jefferson, 33
Thomas Paine, 39
John Adams, 40
George Washington, 44
This nation was built by brilliant young men.
People whining about America's imperfections today are ignorant.
We ALWAYS understood we were flawed.
We knew it at the founding, when even slaveholders like Jefferson understood the evil of slavery...
And we understand it today.
That doesn't stop us from being great.
250 years after July 4, 1776, the successor of King George III pays taxes and publishes his returns. The successor of George Washington does not. https://t.co/CbIXDe8UQY
Maureen Dowd has an op-ed in today’s New York Times entitled “Founding Father vs. Foundering Toddler” in which she compares and contrasts George Washington and Donald Trump. It includes quotes by author Ron Chernow who won a Pulitzer Prize for his biography of George Washington. Here are a few quotes (and a free link to the article is pasted below).
Ron Chernow: “I just can’t imagine two human beings who are more dissimilar than George Washington and Donald Trump. Washington was discreet, reserved, courteous — he avoided any kind of show or ostentation or self-promotion. With Donald Trump, it’s nonstop bragging and boasting and self-promotion that would have been, I think, completely alien to George Washington, and very much counter to his idea of the way that a public servant should behave.”
Maureen Dowd: “The hero who commanded the Continental Army was protective of the nascent democracy, realizing its fragility. Cadet Bone Spurs maliciously erodes it, seeing it as a hindrance to his lust for untrammeled power and cash grabs. . . One famously wouldn’t tell a lie. The other famously can’t stop telling lies.”
________
Trump spoke at Mt. Rushmore last night after buzzing over it twice in the 747 sky palace he got from Qatar and you paid to refurbish and he plans to keep. He said that those who aren’t loyal to him and supportive of his debasement of the presidency and his assault on our democratic republic are communists. “The Communist Party is made up of illegal immigrants, criminals and everybody that doesn’t want to work. . . It’s death, tyranny and the pursuit of evil.” That’s a hell of a way to describe the majority of Americans on the eve of America’s birthday who see Donald Trump for who he really is.
Lindsay Chervinsky, the executive director of the George Washington Presidential Library, said this about how she believed George Washington would feel about America’s 250th birthday: “I think the dominant feeling would be one of joy that the nation is still here, because most republics just don’t last that long, and he knew that.”
It’s up to us to prevent the demagogue the Founding Fathers feared from destroying the fragile democracy that George Washington entrusted to us.

Trump uses the pardon power to normalize fraud and corruption. He wants us to believe that if everyone is corrupt, then who cares if he is corrupt, too. It’s just politics. It doesn’t have to be this way.

“Washington was beloved by many for giving away power he could have kept. Trump is reviled by many for snatching power he isn’t entitled to,” writes our columnist Maureen Dowd. “One famously wouldn’t tell a lie. The other famously can’t stop telling lies.” https://t.co/9dIN6gQnEY
'You do not need to think Trump is the end of American democracy, or that everything he does is evil, to see this for what it is: the biggest grift in American history.' @TheFP, in a blistering and fully persuasive attack on @POTUS https://t.co/uiUgO8Bzcx
Some donors who intended to give money to America250, a bipartisan effort to celebrate the nation’s 250th anniversary, were given routing and account numbers that directed their funds to Freedom 250, which President Trump established, House Democrats allege. https://t.co/F2ZOT3FDUy
In the first term, only a handful of folks DIDN’T think Trump was a moron.
The rest of the people I worked alongside — from Cabinet members to staff assistants — realized that the president was an idiot.
Take it for what you will. But that’s the truth.
One of the worst Russian missile and drone attacks on Kyiv ever, with 74 missiles and 496 drones, indiscriminate as always. Several residential buildings collapsed, 13 people confirmed killed, many more missing and still trapped under the rubble as rescue operations go on.
Unable to advance on the frontline, faced with the blockade of Crimea and a fuel crisis at home, Putin is doing what he still can: killing Ukrainian civilians. 📸 Ukraine state emergency service
As JD’s Bible says, “For I was hungry and you gave me not food, I was thirsty and you gave me not drink, I was a stranger and you did not welcome me—for I am a low-wage foreigner, and their politicians are demagogues.”
Question: Is there any precedent even close for a U.S. President making this much money personally while in office?
Fmr WH ethics lawyer @RWPUSA: “None ever. We've never seen this much money made by U.S. President. We've never seen substantial conflicts of interest for any U.S. President since the Civil
War. Financial conflicts of interest. Every other president has voluntarily divested themselves of conflicts of interest with the presidency, except for Donald Trump .”
While Americans are battling rising inflation, higher gas prices, health care cuts, and an ongoing housing crisis, Trump is using the chaos he created to pocket billions.
