@thedailybeast Also, per my mom, a fmr social wkr who got people on programs like SNAP, Medicaid, etc. A general, not comprehensive, idea of how long you have to be in the US to use social programs. (5years!) Again, undocumented folks are never eligible even tho they often pay into the system.
@sarahkendzior@Harryslaststand We would drive from NeCO to western NC every summer and took almost every variation of the cross NE/KS drive and none of them were good. Runza was the only perk.
@radona@castlehillmom Idk if you still have the sharpie issue, we do. Dry erase is an easy way to take it off hard surfaces without much scrubbing. We have 70yo wooden floors that have fallen victim multiple times.
@heymrsbond Yes! I have some colleagues who create beautiful spaces for kids and am always jealous! My forte is giving them comfort by being able to repair their glasses, Chromebook, bus passes, etc. so I make sure to have the tools to do it. Summer is definitely for testing!
@EyahDegenerate@Captain_C2@ChazakielDoremi Yeah, they were. I learned to read before kinder but had extensive pre-k in the 80s. I didn’t learn English phonics until well into my teaching career/SoR trainings. My brother got phonics from SPED and my mom, not the gen-ed classroom.
@emilykmay My husband was trying to coordinate something for his mom. I’m not a huge gift person so I’m like totally fine with some hours by myself and nothing material. Anyway, his brother immediately suggested their mom make some complex traditional food for the get together!!!
@heymrsbond I asked a “veteran” teacher (year 4) if it would all be fine after the first year. She told me year 3 was the sweet spot. Year 15 and my teammate asks me if I’m “teaching from the heart” or strictly following the curriculum. Knowing standards and time are the things.
@aliciaandrz I told a kid something was none of their beeswax and, after 7 months of being told so, he said, “Bees make wax?” So hopefully your person listened more. Mine are just little nosey nellies who need to focus less on the trivial around them!
@mrs_g_rider Yeah, I guess mine are gen alpha but they’re definitely not savvy about solving tech issues. I finally have like 2 of them who will say, “I hit refresh and restarted it.”
@aliciaandrz I spiraled with COVID lockdown and Tiger King. I put one of our small framed gals on a diet. She needed Prozac and not a diet. We are back to free feeding. The poor tigers just sent me over the edge. Your lady looks perfect! My mom has a 16lb cat and it’s just his body!!!
@mrs_g_rider I have so many who don’t know their parents’ first names. My 3yo has observed and knows our first and middle names despite it horrifying his grandmother. I would rather have my kid be able to say he is mine!
@AshleyGWinter I grew up in a tiny town (not Jewish) and the stillness is one of the things I miss the most. My husband would be so confused why we could do nothing, and I was always just 🤷♀️. Make fake A1, watch the entire Star Wars original trilogy? Doesn’t matter. There’s nothing else!
@emilykmay I have a long torso and wide shoulders and a wide rib cage! While wedding dress shopping one of the fitters asked me if I knew I measured 3 different sizes. No amount of weight gain or loss has changed/can change this. She also looks lovely so idk why people are so weird?
Yo @dieworkwear , I’m very aware we are not worthy of your presence as you rule, but me and @traecrowder would love to have you as a guest on our podcast @PuttinOnAirsPod to discuss fashion and particularly southern work wear fashion!
@theDRAMAgoat1 I didn’t tell my then 3rd graders until one asked about the ring. Then, a kid I had for a couple of years (I moved grade levels), shouted, “You didn’t even have a boyfriend and now you’re engaged?!?” So I don’t recommend just letting them notice.
@technologylaura Used to and now I try to just use my contract hours as much as possible. Definitely was not an option my first years but since I’ve basically taught the same grade for 15 years, a lot of the planning piece is way easier.
@LamsonNguyen15 I lost my voice this week so google translate was the teacher. It was oddly effective for this because they didn’t want me pressing play over and over again. And they knew I couldn’t talk and would just shrug at them.
@notcapnamerica Absolutely never! If anything, when I’m not in my neighborhood (especially if it’s not a traditionally white space) people go out of their way to be kind and helpful.
@sewistwrites Mine (2.5) will sit still but it took multiple rounds of being sick to watch tv. (Not proud) some things that kind of work sometimes:
Wet paintbrush on a chalkboard
Wet paintbrush on me
Stacking things
Cheerios on a pipe cleaner
Good luck and feel better!
