The student you see every morning in the hall who you say ‘good morning’ to but yet never looks up or responds.
Keep trying... you may never get a response, but they know you notice them & that reassurance at the start of their day can be life changing.

In a healthy school culture, it’s not...
“your kids”
or
“my kids.”
It’s “OUR kids.”
Let’s choose shared ownership and collective leadership every time!

Good classroom management ISN'T about control and compliance.
Good classroom management IS about engagement and relationships.

If you work in a school, you are important to more than just the kids. Staff morale is not usually a function of the students… but of the level of support, encouragement, trust, respect, and camaraderie that exists among the adults in the building.
Some days it doesn’t feel like I’m making a difference. Sometimes it seems like I’m just trying to keep my head above water.
But I will keep going. The students need us to keep going.
Encouraging words never get old.
If you want to make a difference for someone… build them up with your words. They don’t have to be special words… or profound words. They just have to be from the heart.
Sometimes... kids are just trying to make it through their day. Teachers need to understand this. And sometimes… teachers are just trying to make it through their day. Administrators need to understand this.
A1: One quote I continue to share with my staff and Board is “Our system is perfectly designed to give us the results we’re getting.” If we want different results, we must take risks and try new and different things. #leadupchat
Sometimes, teaching can be a grind. It’s not all cute bulletin boards, inspirational lessons, and lightbulb moments. But teachers keep going. They persevere in their commitment to engage in meaningful work -- to make a difference for students. And I love them for it.
Today is the first of 2 articles I have written for mathematician journals. This one, for the @amermathsoc: "Everyone can Learn Mathematics to High Levels: The Evidence from Neuroscience that Should Change our Teaching". I will wait for the push back 🙂 https://t.co/DeJ6DxuFqG
I don’t want our school to reflect society; I want it to SHAPE society. I want our students to be stronger because they walked our halls. And I want our community to be stronger because we served those students. #EducationMatters
