I want to say something about this that I so far have not seen in any of the quote-tweets or comments.

I am not advocating people do this but I want to speak about why this speaks to my sunken spirit as a poor person.

12 Ontario Mayors are formally requesting that @fordnation invoke the notwithstanding clause to suspend encampment residents' Charter-protected rights so that they can be removed from encampments. The letter cites the Grants Pass Supreme Court decision in the U.S., which allows local governments to criminalize unhoused people in lieu of building housing and shelter, or offering services. It's Draconian and represents an abdication of government responsibility for the welfare of homeless people.

This letter comes a day after @fordnation told @ONBigCityMayors to "have the backbone" to formally ask him to use the notwithstanding clause.

Ford has invoked the clause three times, twice successfully to both force back-to-work legislation and to limit criticism of his government through third-party advertising. With the Mayors of Barrie, Brampton, Brantford, Cambridge, Chatham-Kent, Clarington, Oakville, Oshawa, Pickering, St. Catherines, Sudbury, and Windsor taking responsibility for the ask, Ford could very well table legislation that invokes the notwithstanding clause to evict encampments, without municipalities needing to offer resources like shelter.

Even if you don't care about homeless people, you should be greatly alarmed that entire demographic groups are being targeted to have their Charter rights removed. Who's next?

When I post about Covid causing mental health complications, NO ONE sees my posts. It’s SO BIZARRE. In 2022 we learned Covid increases the risk of mental health disorders by 60%, 86% when hospitalized. We were warned Covid could contribute to suicides & ODs & people should be monitored after infection. Amid RECORD SUICIDES & OVERDOSES in the US, we aren’t doing that, & we aren’t attempting to prevent Covid either.

Meanwhile, private equity is investing in mental health, addiction, conservatorships/guardianships, & the “troubled kids” industry, & blue states are bringing back forced institutionalization.

Excessive rainfall impacts unhoused people. Tents can cave in, and people's belongings can be totally destroyed — including ID. There's a heightened risk of bacterial infection, Hep A, Trench Foot, and mental duress — which can lead to OD. But no one talks about these things.

It is outrageous that the University of Toronto will not allow Suzanne Weiss—an 83-year-old survivor of the Holocaust— into King’s College. Campus security blocked entry at every turn, and the campus police forced Suzanne to walk to the encampment.

Many of you know the history of Jordn and his ordeal in Clarence Sq, stalked and harassed by police for months and unable to leave his tiny house (one of the Khaleel originals) over a false bench warrant then driven out to Trenton the warrant was corrected and he was brought back to Toronto
