Water usage has been a hot topic in the AI data center world, but the numbers may surprise you.
According to the Manhattan Institute, data centers use 0.2 percent of daily water usage in the U.S. and that number has dramatically decreased in the past few years due to a new method: liquid cooling.
By moving to 45°C liquid cooling, AI factories in favorable climates can use dry coolers instead of conventional cooling-tower-based systems, cutting facility cooling water use from roughly 2.6M gallons per MW per year to near zero.
Liquid cooling enables AI factories to be both water and energy efficient, while creating opportunities for heat reuse and dispersal to local communities, allowing these factories to become energy grid assets.

The World Cup has turned America into a discovery channel for the rest of the world.
And they are not handling it well.
In the best possible way.
Here is what they are discovering:
Free public restrooms. Europeans pay every time.
Free water at every restaurant. Just appears.
Free refills. Coffee. Sodas. Iced tea. Unlimited.
Free chips and salsa before you even order.
Free warm bread with dinner.
Ice in drinks like civilized people.
Air conditioning everywhere. Not a moral debate. A fact.
Parking lots attached to the actual place you are going.
Drive throughs where the food comes to the car while you sit in it.
Ranch dressing by the gallon.
Tex-Mex that cannot be explained only experienced.
Dental care that actually works.
Buccee’s. There are no words for Buccee’s.
Then they found the grocery stores.
Five of them within one mile.
Each one the size of an aircraft hangar.
Burgers. Steaks. Brisket. Ribs. Pulled pork. Lamb. Veal. Every cut of every animal ever domesticated by human civilization available in one refrigerated aisle at ten in the morning on a Tuesday.
The Germans stood in the meat section for forty five minutes.
In silence.
Processing.
They finally understand why we do not have trains.
We have roads wide enough for the cars we actually drive.
Parking lots the size of small European countries.
Airports in every city worth visiting.
Why would we need trains.
The Germans are taking ranch home by the bottle.
The Dutch found queso and briefly lost the ability to speak.
The Japanese are photographing HEB like it is the Louvre.
The Czechs are weeping in West, Texas.
Welcome to America.
Everything is free, enormous, air conditioned, comes with chips, and has five grocery stores within a mile that will sell you any cut of any animal you have ever imagined.
Write that down. 🦋
As Brits, we thought we understood fried chicken.
Then our American friends at Hattie B’s invited us down in Nashville… and we quickly realised we didn’t. 😅
Crispy Nashville hot chicken, seasoned fries, mac & cheese, slaw, bacon & cheese grits, and portions that seemed to get bigger every time another tray landed on the table. 🍗🔥
They even kept us fuelled with local drinks, including a Hattie B’s x TailGate Brewing “Drinking Buddy” Golden Ale for me and a Ponyboy bourbon & strawberry soda for the wife. 🍻🥤
Great food, great atmosphere, and proper Southern hospitality from the moment we walked in.
10/10 experience. If you’re visiting Nashville, put this place on your list.

Sure you can earn a billion dollars. I've been teaching people how to do it for 20 years. The way you do it is to start a company that grows fast. You don't have to do anything bad to make a company grow fast. You just have to make something people want.

India is an aspirational society. To upwardly-mobile middle class families hotel lobbies represent everything they have always wanted: polish, signs of wealth, and obviously shine.
I think what is tacky to you is how shiny the living room is and in your privileged world (and probably also mine) living rooms are meant to be soft and intimate
and not shiny and glossy.
Most families I knew while growing up had homes that had mostly utilitarian aesthetics. Extra things hanging from
the doors, plastic bags crammed into the corners, furniture with mismatched colors because choices were optimized for price. A dining table bought after someone’s first few salaries didn’t often match the grandeur of a sofa that was bought later, when the family had a little bit more money.
And for a lot of these families any exposure to luxury and taste was when they travelled and maybe spent some extra money on a nice hotel. And when I mean nice hotel, I mean hotels with A/C “Deluxe” rooms.
So finally when the next generation finally sees a bit of money their tastes probably converge to their memory of success and luxury. Living rooms inadvertently begin to resemble hotel and office lobbies.
This will probably change with the generation after who are growing up traveling the world and far from a world of scarcity.
