Many of us have lived in Lagos long enough to know the script.

Rain falls. Roads flood. Nothing changes. Same Lekki-Epe. Same Apapa. Same excuses about coastal road and drainage.

What is paining me right now, isn’t the gridlock. It’s the people who don’t have a car to be stuck in.

The ones wading home through waist-deep water in Ajah, Agungi and the likes, paying strangers just to cross the road, standing in the rain with nowhere to wait.

A man ‘swam’ his car from Ologolo to New Road yesterday, and he was one of the lucky ones.

No one knows when all this issues will end, especially because after the raining season stops, we will move on from things as we always do until the next cycle.

The problem with the Olodo Uprising conversation is not that we have too many dumb people.

It's that our smart ones looked at the economy and the sensationalism source, then decided that being an "Olodo" pays better and that's what should terrify all of us.

If you look at the professionals you know, you will see many people talented beyond measure.

Many have discipline and capacity, but a growing number are quietly pivoting to clout because the market rewarded that louder than everything they studied for.

And this is not just Nigerian ignorance. It’s a global calculation.

I have to say that the most heartbreaking version of an Olodo Uprising is not someone who never tried. It’s the brilliant person who tried, got little or nothing, looked at who WAS getting rewarded and put on the costume.

Smart people are ‘performing Olodos’ because they reverse-engineered success and followed the data.

When intelligence stops paying and spectacle starts, people aren’t dumb. They’re adaptive.

Now here’s where it gets personal. Whether you agree or not, it can be primarily tied to money.

If money wasn’t the constant pressure it is, we would have more intellectual platforms. More conversations built around real ideas and more sessions that actually move culture forward.

But almost everyone, is too busy chasing it to build that world right now.

And again, here’s another thing no one is saying out loud:

Most graduates in Nigeria don’t even work in the field they studied.

And the ones who do? They have a side hustle. A small business.

Something running quietly in the background just to close the gap.

That’s not a failure of education.

That’s what educated people do when the economy forces their hand.

This generation of people running businesses on the side of jobs that already don’t pay enough, have real products, services and value to offer.

So we can only but imagine a world where the most visible people online and everywhere are also the most brilliant.

Where founders trend not for going viral doing something dumb, but because their product changed someone’s life.

18.3 million Nigerian children currently out of school. #1 globally for that. But is not exclusive to Nigeria.

The Olodo Uprising ends when money is either banned or when being smart and staying smart, becomes the most viable path to making money.

Until then, we’re just doing the math.

Moniepoint employ, in total, almost 30,000 Nigerians. They are a top employer in NIGERIA 🇳🇬. They pay a minimum of 75% percentile of the market. Junior Developers earn N1M monthly. Most earn N3M and some earn N4M monthly. They have people who earn around N10M monthly!

Moniepoint remains one of the highest transacting companies in AFRICA. They are a world-class company. And if Moniepoint did not exist, Nigeria would have gone to CHINA, completely.

Tosin must have spoken from a place of deep passion and pain because human capital in Nigeria is low. I have tweeted about this several times as well. Yes, we have good talent, but when you look at the larger population of the country, we have so much work to do. This is a FACT!

By the way, Moniepoint has paid some employees a million dollar in stock options (IN CASH). And there are at least 15-20 people who work with Moniepoint in Nigeria who are dollar millionaires!

So, to say they underpay or they take advantage of cheap labour is redundant and lazy talk.

Again, criticisms should be fair and balanced. But Business Leaders should never shy away from shedding light on challenges across the country.

Whether we like to admit it or not, there’s a growing competency gap in a large part of our employable workforce today. Most of my businesses function heavily with the help of AI, yet I feel this gap too.

The issue isn’t just unemployment anymore, or lower salaries, it’s also preparedness, adaptability, and depth of skill.

Degrees are increasing. Real-world capability? I cannot say it’s at the same pace.

We need to start having more honest conversations about competence, not just employment.

It only becomes about you, when you realize it is not about you. Power is earned through value and the exchange of clarity not noise.

When all your dreams come true, you may realize that it’s not the solution to your fulfillment.
