I deeply respect Rubio and think he would be an excellent candidate for 2028. But I disagree with looking to ancient Greece as the defining symbol of Western civilization. Greece left an extraordinary legacy, but its ancient civilization did not endure in the way Jewish civilization has.
I believe Jewish civilization offers an equally compelling, and in some ways more enduring, model. For thousands of years, through exile, persecution, and the destruction of our homeland, Jewish civilization has endured. Education, scholarship, resilience through hardship, moral responsibility, and the courage to defend our values are embedded in our tradition. The scholar-warrior isn't a new ideal for us; it's one we've carried across generations.
America's founding ideals of liberty and human dignity also have meaningful parallels with Jewish values. I believe this shared moral inheritance helps explain why Israel and America continue to find themselves defending many of the same principles.
My parents, who came to America from the Soviet Union, instilled in me a profound appreciation for this legacy. They taught me that we should never lose our pride, our joy, or our determination to build, learn, and stand up for what we believe in.
We need a new generation of scholar-warriors who understand where these values come from and have the courage to carry them forward.
@wolfejosh, your post about the Lux fellowship and program resonated with me. I'd love to learn more about what you're envisioning and how you hope to cultivate this next generation.
For the very first stars to form, primordial gases had to cool from 10^9 K down to the order of 10-100 K. In our new article, we propose Rydberg states as potential coolants at low temperatures.
Rydberg States of H3 and HeH as Potential Coolants for Primordial Star Formation
The first gene therapy for hemophilia could be approved by the FDA within six months, raising hopes for patients and their families.
But the treatment could cost as much as $3 million per patient—which would make it the most expensive drug ever approved.
