It begins. π
Day 1 of the #AfricaImpactSummit2026 opens in Lusaka β investors, founders, DFIs and governments, one continent's agenda.
Our Resident Representative, Dr @wakiaga, takes the stage with a question every investor on this continent should sit with. π

Iβm deeply concerned about the curtailment of navigational rights & freedoms in the area of the Strait of Hormuz disrupting energy, transport, manufacturing & food markets & strangling the global economy.
All of humanity is paying the price.
Consider these three scenarios:
1: Restrictions are lifted today
Supply chains will take months to recover, prolonging lower economic output and higher prices
Global economic growth will drop from 3.4%to 3.1%.
Global inflation β which had been declining β will climb from 3.8% to 4.4%.
2: Disruption drags on through midyear
Growth falls to 2.5%.
Inflation hits 5.4%.
32 million people are pushed into poverty.
Fertilizers run low, and crops yields fall short.
45 million more people will face extreme hunger.
3: Severe disruptions persist through the end of the year
Inflation skyrockets past 6%.
Growth plummets to 2%.
Immense suffering takes hold, especially among the worldβs most vulnerable populations.
We confront the spectre of a global recession β with dramatic impacts on people, on the economy, and on political and social stability.
A free, independent press is a foundation for peace and justice. In a rapidly evolving digital landscape, shaped by AI, credible journalism can counter disinformation and foster understanding.
On #WorldPressFreedomDay, we reaffirm that freedom of expression, ethical use of technology and the safety of journalists are essential to peaceful societies.
Deeply saddened by the passing of Ted Turner, a true friend of the United Nations.
A pioneer whose historic generosity led to the founding of the @UNFoundation, helping to usher in a new era of public-private partnership in support of peace, dignity and sustainable development around the world.
His legacy will continue to live on through the work of the UN Foundation and through the countless lives touched by his belief in the power of people coming together to build a better future for all.
I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, loved ones, and the staff and Board of the Foundation.
GDP is the most widely used metric of economic progress & well-being. But it cannot be the only one.
GDP is indifferent to whether income goes to billionaires or to the poor β or if that income goes to addressing hunger, health or deprivation.
Letβs count what matters: Health. Biodiversity. Job-creation. Human rights. Equality.
Iβm saddened by the passing of former President of the Botswana, Dr. Festus Mogae.
President Mogae was a visionary leader who helped shape Botswanaβs remarkable story of stability and progress. His courage and compassion in responding to the AIDS crisis continued throughout his life. His deep belief in economic transformation of Africa inspired action across the Continent.
My heartfelt condolences to his family, loved ones and the people of Botswana.
