#ThinkTank advocating the shift to a carbon-free economy. We are dedicated to inform and influence the debate on #climate and #energytransition in Europe.
The Shift Project, think tank advocating the shift to a carbon-free economy, is proud to announce the launch of The Shift Project #Europe, dedicated to European policies tackling the #climate and #energytransition.
Unsurprisingly, the @IEA found that CO2 emissions hit a record high in 2021.
Until we put #sufficiency at the core of the world's energy and climate policies, it will be impossible to structurally reduce emissions, let alone achieve our climate goals.
Global energy-related CO2 emissions rose by 6% in 2021, rebounding to their highest level in history.
The annual rise in CO2 emissions of over 2 billion tonnes, the largest ever in absolute terms, was driven mainly by increased use of coal.

#Oil production is structurally declining in the world and this is too often a blind spot of European energy policies.
Our director, @OIL_MEN, presents in this interview the state of play of oil resources and why it matters for our modern societies. 👇

🏠Our EPBD consultation response is out! To improve the #energy and carbon performance of buildings the EU should:
➡️Design MEPS for energy and carbon in WLC approach
➡️Move from nZEB to very-low emissions buildings
➡️Encourage energy sobriety

Wondering about the share of energy consumption of #digital technologies?🤔
We did the math! And data centers are not the only problem.
The transition to a low-carbon economy requires rethinking the current #digitalisation trend to make it sustainable 👉https://t.co/3FHU9RmEzy
The Council conclusions on the #RenovationWave rightly emphasize the need to improve the energy and carbon performance of the EU building stock.
But it misses concrete policy demands for the #EPBD, notably on MEPS and BRPs.

❓Did you know? Only 16 countries provide 95% of the EU’s crude #oil imports. Out of those, 14 demonstrate a decline in their production.
🛢️Europe's economy is still heavily oil dependent and supply risks should be tackled urgently.
Our latest study 👇https://t.co/17kyikaWVM
New study‼️
The Shift Project looks at the potential risks for Europe’s oil supplies🛢️, which are likely to drop by 10 to 20% over the 2030s, compared to 2019 level.
This is a crucial element to know ahead of the #Fitfor55 package.

🛢️Oil remains the first source of energy worldwide and still represents 90% of fuels used in transport, vital for a globalised economy.
Tomorrow at 6 PM, the Shift Project presents a new study:"What risks for oil supply in Europe?"

Today, the @Europarl_EN vote on the hydrogen strategy report should not ignore the physical limitations of #hydrogen.
Believing, thanks to hydrogen, that we will maintain our current levels of consumption, while meeting our climate targets, is a myth.

The revision of the EED is a cornerstone of the #Fitfor55 package. It should set:
👉A clear distinction between energy #efficiency and #sobriety;
👉An at least 40% binding EU and national targets;
👉The deletion of all alternative approaches.

🌲The last 10 years, the Brazilian Amazon rainforest has been a net #CO2 emitter.
Climate #tippingpoints are physical realities that can contradict pledges to increase carbon sinks.
They should be at the center of a realistic path to carbon neutrality 👉https://t.co/aWgCBgl28M
🚗There is a lot of discussion about the #carCO2 standards regulation ahead of the Fit for 55 package, but what about their weight?
To be truly fit for carbon neutrality, our vehicles need to be as light as possible, which will boost their #energyefficiency!
EU policy-makers have reached a deal on the #Climatelaw.
More than targets, the real contributor to limit #GlobalWarming to 2 degrees will be fast and concrete actions ensuring that we decrease emissions from 4 to 5 % every year, in line with the laws of physics.
The revision of the EPBD, expected for the end of 2021, should prioritise operational and enforceable provisions to reduce the #energydemand and #CO2emissions of the EU building stock.

Europe needs to launch a major public-sector real estate #renovation programme!🏥🏫
Both our #DecabonizeEurope manifesto and EED consultation response stressed it: Public buildings should lead the way to reach near-zero energy consumption.

We actualized our data on the environmental impact of the #digital sector. The bad news? Same results: The current development trend of ICT is unsustainable.
