No water in the apartment where I am since Monday in eastern Caracas. Normally we get it Mon morning-Wed afternoon and rely on the tank the rest of the week, except 30 mins each day when it comes in from outside. Apparently the electricity issue in the country is now affecting water supply in Caracas. (I am no expert and haven't looked into it enough yet, just what people in the building are hearing.) Going to another apartment in another part of Caracas to do some laundry. Water and electricity are massive ongoing issues for people in Venezuela. Parts of the country are without electricity for hours each day.

The older i get, the more i realize that someone making time for you is one of the clearest signs they care. Everyone is busy. Everyone has responsibilities and their own battles to fight. So when someone consistently chooses to spend their time with you, checks on you, and makes space for you in their life, it means something. time is one thing we can never get back, and people don't give it away lightly.

La diáspora ya tiene años apoyando a su familia en Venezuela, el venezolano dentro del país ya tiene décadas echándole bolas para apoyar a sus vecinos, las ONGs ya tienen años asistiendo una crisis humanitaria complejísima, los periodistas ya tienen años tejiendo redes para poder defender la verdad, los médicos ya tienen años sosteniendo como pueden el sistema de salud, los maestros ya tiene años sacrificándose para llevar un poco de luz a las aulas, ya el país tiene años supliendo la falta de estado.

El terremoto solo develó algo que quizá antes no teníamos tan mapeado: el venezolano se dedicó a construir un país en paralelo al país que el régimen decidió derrumbar.

Machinery, machinery, machinery. That’s what I heard off every family today still searching for their loved ones in the rubble in La Guaira. Most said they had enough food and water but little or no help to remove the debris. Many diggers had no fuel. One family (first photo) had come from the state of Portuguesa to search for their daughter Alexandra, 23, years old. They’re sleeping in a tent. They brought with them friends and family from home to help look for her. They still hold out hope she’s alive. Another guy was on crutches searching for members of his family, including his pregnant sister.
