I’m currently taking a gap year, and walaiii, my bills have not gotten the memo 😭
The more I say "no money", the more something pops up.
The worst part sef is when I’m deeply focused on work, then someone is telling me to "send money now" 🤦🏾♀️
With my bad network, I’ll leave the chat, wait for my bank app to load and my mood!
Abeg I want ease. And that’s why I got @weyanapp early.
Now I send/receive fast as a sharp babe 😌 All in one place
Try we.yan here: https://t.co/0nwPGtUDnX
Random but I just found out about @weyanapp and I’m actually wondering why I’m only hearing about this now 😭
The fact that you can chat, send money and receive money all in one app is actually so convenient. Especially if you’re constantly sending payments, receiving money or running a business, this kind of convenience >>>>
And of course, I found something useful and I have to put my people on 😌❤️
Use my link to check out we.yan and let’s try it together

You know what’s funny.
Every time someone says “talk is cheap,” I dey always reason am.
Why I go just dey chat and money no go drop? 😭
Because why am I having a whole conversation and somehow not making money from it?
Na we.yan dey save person now, you no fit dey give me lamba. 😂
As we’re chatting, you’re sending me funds.
And the best part? It’s seamless. You can chat and send money in the same place.
Try it out: https://t.co/iSkotUNZrN
Sometimes you just to want your money to move without needing to understand 10 different financial terms first.
That’s what I’ve been enjoying about @weyanapp. It keeps everyday money matter simple and all in one place!
Try We.Yan for yourself: https://t.co/8UHcfeEW2q
Me I’ve sha ignored all the investment takes flying around on X and started using @weyanapp these days.
Had my wallet set up and use it for literally everything!

I downloaded WeYan because it kept popping up on my timeline. I wanted to understand what the product was actually trying to own.
And after using it, my biggest question was:
“What behaviour are you actually asking me to change?”
Right now, the campaign is heavily built around:
“I hate opening my bank app.”
“I don’t want to switch between apps.”
“Now I can chat and pay in the same place.”
But here’s my problem with that:
Is opening OPay actually a painful problem for most people?
Or is it just something Nigerians are already completely used to doing?
I can open my bank app, make my transfer and leave.
I can use a recent transaction or a saved beneficiary and not need to ask for the account number again.
I can even use USSD.
The existing behaviour is already familiar, fast and deeply embedded.
So WeYan isn’t just competing with a bad experience. It’s competing with an established habit. And habits are much harder to beat.
Because now the question isn’t “can you make payment easier?”
It’s:
“Have you made it so much better that I’m willing to download, register for and keep another app?”
And that’s where I start getting uncomfortable with the current positioning.
Because you’ve just changed the friction flow.
Instead of:
WhatsApp → bank app → transfer → WhatsApp
I’m now being asked to:
Download WeYan → register → set up my wallet → find/connect with people → get them onto WeYan → then enjoy the convenience of chatting and paying in one place.
That’s not necessarily less friction.
It’s just friction at a different point in the journey.
And there’s another thing I found particularly interesting.
WeYan now lets you send money using just a phone number, but if the recipient isn’t already on WeYan, they have to join and create a wallet before they can receive the money. (According to their App Store release notes)
So I have to ask:
Have you actually removed friction from my payment journey, or have you created an adoption task for the person I’m trying to pay?
This is also why I find the Xara comparison interesting.
Xara brings financial actions into WhatsApp, the place where the conversation is already happening.
It can work through text, pictures and voice notes, so the proposition isn’t “leave your existing environment and come into ours.” It’s closer to “do more from the environment you’re already using.” (Xara AI)
So if the problem is app switching or in chat payment , I don’t think WeYan has necessarily won that argument. 🌚
But here’s where I think WeYan has something much more interesting.
Commerce.
WeYan already has stores, products, merchant chats, payments and delivery functionality. Its own product positioning talks about helping businesses create stores, list products, chat with customers, get paid and manage delivery.
That is a much more interesting problem to solve.
Because think about how a lot of businesses actually sell today:
Instagram for discovery.
WhatsApp for conversation.
Bank app for payment.
Screenshot for payment confirmation.
Another app or phone call for delivery.
Then another conversation to follow up on the order.
THAT is friction.
And unlike “opening my bank app”, it happens repeatedly inside an actual commercial transaction.
So if I were approaching WeYan as a brand strategist, not as their brand strategist, I wouldn’t lead with:
“Stop opening your bank app.”
I’d build the brand around:
“Turn discovery into a transaction without losing the conversation.”
Or, even more simply:
“Where businesses turn conversations into sales.”
And I would make the marketplace the acquisition engine.
I shouldn’t have to already know you, have your number or have you in my contacts before I can find your store.
If I’m looking for a handbag, I should be able to discover one.
If I’m looking for a makeup artist, I should be able to discover one.
If I’m looking for a cake vendor in Lagos, I should be able to discover one.
If I’m looking for sneakers, I should be able to discover sellers.
You get the gist Abi?
Then I can chat with the seller, ask questions, buy, pay and arrange delivery.
Now WeYan isn’t asking me to download an app because it has chat and payments.
It’s giving me a reason to download the app because something I want is there.
That’s a completely different acquisition proposition.
And it creates a much stronger network effect too.
The seller comes because there are buyers.
The buyer comes because there are products and sellers.
The transaction creates the conversation.
The conversation creates the relationship.
The payment and delivery infrastructure keep the transaction inside the ecosystem.
That’s much more compelling to me than trying to convince Nigerians that opening their bank app is an unbearable experience. 🙂↔️🙂↔️
And this is exactly why I’m nitpicking WeYan. It’s not that I think the app is stupid or I’m trying to drag a Nigerian startup.
And definitely not because I don’t understand that influencers are being paid to promote products. I get paid to promote products too. That’s literally how marketing works.
I’m doing it because this is what I do as a brand strategist.
I look at what a product does, who it’s for, what behaviour it’s asking people to change, what alternatives already exist and whether the reason you’re giving people to care is strong enough to make them change.
And sometimes the problem isn’t that you’ve built a bad product. Sometimes you’ve built several interesting things and chosen the least defensible one to make famous.
WeYan might have built more than it’s currently selling.
And if I were the strategist in the room, that’s the first thing I’d be challenging.
@halimahthebird From a business perspective, putting customer conversations and payments in one place could make everyday transactions much easier and more convenient.
We’ve somehow made sending money a two location activity.
Talk about it here then go somewhere else to do it.
I get why we.yan is putting more of the money action closer to the conversation.
I’ll leave you people to investigate, download we.yan, activate your wallet and tell me what you think 🤭

Me and making transactions for food vendors ehn 😂 I can’t even tell you how much I spend on food in a month. And it’s just me o. I don’t even have a wife and children yet 😭
But I see why everything has been going so smoothly sha, na because of we.yan. I can literally be chatting with the vendor and make the transaction right there. No leaving the chat, no switching apps, no breaking the flow.
The money side of everyday life should be as easy as this fr!
Just try we.yan for yourself
