This is a serious blow to independent media and a chilling warning to all who seek to hold power to account.

Press Freedom Under Fire in Maldives 🇲🇻

Two journalists from Adhadhu, Mohamed Shahzan and Leevan Ali Naseer, have been jailed for "contempt of court" after allegedly violating a gag order.

The Maldives Journalists Association (MJA) has condemned the sentences, linking the arrests to reporting on President Muizzu and court proceedings.
Media groups warn that it could discourage independent journalism.
