तू किसी और ही दुनिया में मिली थी मुझ से
तू किसी और ही मंज़र की महक लाई थी
डर रहा था कि कहीं ज़ख़्म न भर जाएँ मिरे
और तू मुट्ठियाँ भर भर के नमक लाई थी
और ही तरह की आँखें थीं तिरे चेहरे पर
तू किसी और सितारे से चमक लाई थी
तेरी आवाज़ ही सब कुछ थी मुझे मोनिस-ए-जाँ
क्या करूँ मैं कि तू बोली ही बहुत कम मुझ से
तेरी चुप से ही ये महसूस किया था मैं ने
जीत जाएगा किसी रोज़ तिरा ग़म मुझ से
शहर आवाज़ें लगाता था मगर तू चुप थी
ये त'अल्लुक़ मुझे खाता था मगर तू चुप थी
वही अंजाम था जो 'इश्क़ का आग़ाज़ से है
तुझ को पाया भी नहीं था कि तुझे खोना था
चली आती है यही रस्म कई सदियों से
यही होता है यही होगा यही होना था

पूछता रहता था तुझ से कि बता क्या दुख है
और मिरी आँख में आँसू भी नहीं होते थे
मैं ने अंदाज़े लगाए कि सबब क्या होगा
पर मिरे तीर तराज़ू भी नहीं होते थे

जिस का डर था मुझे मा'लूम पड़ा लोगों से
फिर वो ख़ुश-बख़्त पलट आया तिरी दुनिया में
जिस के जाने पे मुझे तू ने जगह दी दिल में
मेरी क़िस्मत में ही जब ख़ाली जगह लिक्खी थी
तुझ से शिकवा भी अगर करता तो कैसे करता
मैं वो सब्ज़ा था जिसे रौंद दिया जाता है
मैं वो जंगल था जिसे काट दिया जाता है
मैं वो दर था जिसे दस्तक की कमी खाती है
मैं वो मंज़िल था जहाँ टूटी सड़क जाती है
मैं वो घर था जिसे आबाद नहीं करता कोई
मैं तो वो था कि जिसे याद नहीं करता कोई

ख़ैर इस बात को तू छोड़ बता कैसी है
तू ने चाहा था जिसे वो तिरे नज़दीक तो है
कौन से ग़म ने तुझे चाट लिया अन्दर से
आज-कल फिर से तू चुप रहती है सब ठीक तो है

In Indian Oil, I was posted in Bihar.

Once, after the home trip, I was going back to Bihar by Rajdhani train. I booked 1st AC coach only to study for the upcoming UPSC prelims during the journey.

I shared the cabin with an Uncle.

Seeing me studying, the uncle asked, "Are you studying in a college in Bihar?"

As we talked, I told him that I work for Indian Oil and am also preparing for UPSC.

What he said, I still remember.

"Why are you preparing for UPSC when you are in such a nice job? You must have worked hard to get into this job as well. You are making enough money. Why aren't you living your life stress-free?"

We, humans, are designed to be dissatisfied. Once we achieve one goal, we start chasing the next. Once we achieve that, we race for the next...

In this race, we often never enjoy our present.

Every moment of life is a blessing. This blessing will shower on you only if you live in the present.
