Packed rooms day in, day out for #GICSIV with pediatric surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, researchers, and advocates from around the world: moving the needle towards a world in which no child should be left to die as a result of a surgically treatable condition. @GICSurgery
We are so grateful that so many nurses are able to attend #GICSIV. Good nursing care is essential for good surgical practice. Thank you Prof Lakhoo for giving them a voice!!
Well done to our SAGSS committee member @Priyanka4092 and founding member @LindaPohlSmith on their global surgery presentations at #Surgicalresearchsociety symposium this week. Watch this space for great opportunities to get involved.
Join us for an advocacy themed evening 23 May at Wits medical school! We will have a guest speaker from the Rural Health Advocacy Project and the South African Non- Communicable Diseases Alliance. For more info check out the Fb event page or contact us at [email protected]
#ASOS2 Trial starts recruiting in Mali & Uganda today. Next week South Africa, and then after that Sierra Leone recruit. Good luck to all these countries, sites and investigators. Certainly start of a new era for African collaborative research https://t.co/M1RtkjoG8r @AfricanSOS
Basically, it appears that most countries don't train enough doctors (Canada is 25% short). To the other extreme; Africa which we know from @AfricanSOS needs between 20 and 50 times more specialists to reach the accepted minimum for safe surgery (20-40 per 100 000 population)
So exciting to have George Azzie telling us about his background in global surgery. So privileged to have inspirational people in the room such as @BruceBiccard@FiegsZA
Dear members please remember to RSVP for our second session with Prof Azzie. 16 April 2019 18h30 at Red Cross Hospital. We will be discussing LMIC-HIC relationships and what does global surgery mean for us as Africans.
