Hundred days after #TVK govt, @CMOTamilnadu’s MAWS dept sees competitive tendering and the govt is seeing upto 30% savings in exchequer. Competitive tenders also see restriction of contractor cartels.

A look at about ten tenders across Tamil Nadu shows that at least ten contractors are participating in civic works tenders ranging from Rs 50 lakhs to Rs 100 crores. Contractors are bidding at 28% less than project cost as tenders are seeing strong competition even for small works. Officials say directions have been issued to avoid project value escalations & any escalation must receive a written concurrence from higher authorities.

The competitive bidding & reduced project costs too show how officials all along have been preparing inflated estimates.

Govt says next step is to ensure estimates are accurately prepared as per standard of rates.
