Order Orła Białego jest symbolem wdzięczności Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej i najwyższym odznaczeniem przyznawanym osobom zasłużonym, które łączy z krajem szczególną więź, i które szanują jego wartości.

Wśród odznaczonych są m. in. święty Jan Paweł II, generałowie Władysław Anders i Stanisław Maczek, rotmistrz Witold Pilecki, premier Jan Olszewski czy dysydent Andrzej Poczobut. I, rzecz jasna, liczni cudzoziemcy, w tym mężowie stanu.

Prezydent Zełenski wspomniał o Benito Mussolinim, Katarzynie II i Gerhardzie Schröderze, którzy nie zostali pozbawieni tego odznaczenia. Dwoje pierwszych już dawno nie żyje, a Polska nie odbiera Orderu pośmiertnie. Były kanclerz Niemiec natomiast nigdy nie obraził narodu polskiego tak otwarcie, jak prezydent Ukrainy, choć jego działalność na rzecz putinowskiej Rosji należy potępić jako szkodliwą dla Polski i Europy. Za rządów Schrödera w Niemczech nie wzniesiono żadnych pomników ku czci Hitlera ani Himmlera. Żadna jednostka Bundeswehry nie została nazwana imieniem „bohaterów SS”.

Ale prezydent Zełenski, który teraz wypomina, że ​​Mussoliniemu, Katarzynie II i Schröderowi nie odebrano Orderu, nie narzekał, że go mają, gdy przed trzema laty sam odbierał wyróżnienie. Poza tym do obelgi, jaką było nazwanie jednostki ukraińskiej armii imieniem „bohaterów UPA”, dokłada kolejną, odsyłając odznaczenie kurierem.

The Order of the White Eagle is a symbol of gratitude of the Republic of Poland, and the highest honor bestowed upon people of merit, who share a special bond with the country and respect the nation’s values.

The recipients include Saint John Paul II, generals Władysław Anders and Stanisław Maczek, Cpt. Witold Pilecki, PM Jan Olszewski, or dissident Andrzej Poczobut. And a number of foreigners, of course, including statesmen.

Because the crux of the matter is the Ukrainian leader’s deliberate insult to the people who have proven to be Ukraine’s best friends in the last four years. You don’t honor murderers of the nation that’s given you every form of assistance when it mattered. When you’re offered a helping hand, you don’t grab it eagerly, and then insult the helper.

Let me be clear: President @NawrockiKn withdrew the Order, not the hand. We support Ukraine, but we won’t be insulted.
