@idontdotweets4@USAOWTC Yeah talk about leaving things out of history books. Our education system tries to frame colonization as such a positive thing. I have never read anything bashing it like this.
@StudentUsao I have thought the same thing when reading several of the readings for this class. I don't know if I could cut it in any other time period!
@PendarvisTo This poem completely confused me as well. I had to look up a meaning for this one. What I found is basically Houseman is saying to focus on the tragedies in life so you are better able to face adversity when it comes.
@980_jordan Yeah I think his good theories get overshadowed by his more weird and out there ones sometimes. I also think he goes a little overboard with the subconscious thing and some of the weird sex stuff.
@MccluskeyWt3 I agree! I think Freud can be a bit cynical, but he has a point. I think, like you pointed out sometimes even when people are doing something charitable/altruistic they are doing it with good intentions, but it ultimately makes them happy.
@kayjonnes@USAOWTC It's strange that some people still refuse to teach/ accept evolution for religious reasons, even though like you said Darwin himself said the two were not mutually exclusive.
@tiamccarley From what was said of him in my Evolution class, it sounds like Origin of Species stirred up a lot of debate and controversy at the time! It would be interesting to see the differing opinions.
Butler has been really influential on the way society views gender. When researching her for my paper, it seems she was one of the first to propose that gender is a social construct, which is the basis for people being more accepted by non-binary people. #WTCButler
"Home and Dwelling" was an interesting take on Kindred. They pointed out that Rufus and Dana are opposing forces who are meant to interact which explains Dana sympathizing with him at points throughout the book. #WTCKin3
The ending to Kindred is not what I expected, but I did like the ending. The stabbing of Rufus was satisfying. He had so many chances to redeem himself, but continued to be a horrible person throughout the book. #WTCKin2
Also, I read it from the beginning this time and was able to see more of her and Kevin's relationship/ how the first time travel experience went. #WTCKin1
I actually ended up reading Kindred last semester when a friend took this course last semester. My friend started reading it aloud in the car on the way back to Tulsa and I got hooked. It is such an interesting concept and I love the way Butler sets up the time travel. #WTCKin1
The only work I had seen of Magritte's is the "this is not a pipe" painting. Alot of his other painting are so dark. I really liked The Central Story. It caught my eye first and you can definitely feel the mood and it leaves the meaning open to interpretation. #WTCMag
Imagine how many things that we missed out on because it was created by a woman and went unnoticed. The same goes for underprivileged people and minorities/ groups of people whose voices are pushed down. #WTCRoom
