If you support the transition of new UG students into HE, this word cloud might be useful!
This is 200+ (anonymous) responses to “what are your concerns & worries for the coming year?”
Key challenges = community-building, developing confidence & supporting academic literacies.
Can confirm we’re getting hit pretty hard in Bishopton. Power is out and estimate for restoration is 1:30pm tomorrow.
Fences and trees are down, even the metal housing for an electricity exchange has blown off and is careering down the road. I’ve never experienced winds like it.
@AmandaPCraig People do realise that soaps have had “trigger warnings” (I prefer content advice) for decades, right?? No one was up in arms about disclaimers at the start of Eastenders warning that the episode might contain scenes of domestic violence, for example. The outrage is ludicrous.
@CatrionaStewart I was driving on the eastbound carriage at around this time, and the traffic on the westbound was moving VERY slowly… maybe because there was a pony on the hard shoulder!?
Just saw Easter eggs in my local coop. Easter eggs!!!
We’ve barely finished celebrating the holy wean’s birth, could we not give it at least a month before thinking about his death?!
Missing yet another gig due to current health situ 😩
I’ve lost count of the events I’ve missed since Aug but it’s into double digits now. Was hoping I’d manage tonight; it’s just a wee folk gig. It was going to be a roadtest for returning to “normal life” but my body says no ☹️
@RachelCDailey Mine hasn’t arrived this year. I was switched to ADP (Scotland) this month, so I wonder if that’s why.
Very sad I won’t be able to buy myself a wee sweetie 🤣
@marinadpol This is precisely why you do belong in medicine, even though it feels like you don’t. Doctors with experience of ill health are far better at their jobs than those who do not. This is awful & you shouldn’t have to be exposed to “jokes” like that - but it’s them who don’t belong.
Amazing work 👏👏👏 @thurible was this line your doing?
I’ve been thinking about Ashley & Janey’s many friends & family today. Janey always reminded me of my mum, they had the same grit & sense of humour, despite traumatic childhoods. Both incredibly strong women taken too soon.
I still fundamentally believe we should be able to choose when to end our lives but not until these very real concerns have been addressed & safeguards are in place. We’ve seen the slippery slope elsewhere, it’s not an unfounded fear. We need to fund life before we fund death 9/9
This might be what pushes me to finally post the thread I drafted in early Oct but was too scared to post. I have both of these experiences & this debate needs input from the not insubstantial number of us who have seen both “sides”.
The current bill is a thin end of a wedge…
this is why i don’t like the debate. people who’ve watched loved ones die justifiably have strong feelings, but ignoring the fact these policies have led to the eugenics of disabled people is something we’re allowed to say without being accused of cruelty. i’d like to live thanks
Everyone deserves dignity in death. I developed PTSD after my mum’s prolonged death. I prayed to a God I don’t believe in for her to die faster. It still affects me; when I was in the HDU in Sept the sounds of other patients struggling to breathe caused agonising flashbacks 8/9
