If you have Hashimoto’s, could food reactions be driving your immune system to attack thyroid tissue and thyroid hormones?
Yes.

If you have Hashimoto’s, what if your immune system is not reacting to just one trigger?
Foods. Microbes. Chemicals. Barrier problems. Loss of immune tolerance.
What combination of triggers and drivers is keeping your autoimmunity active?

If you have Hashimoto’s, could your immune system be recognizing something that resembles your thyroid?
Molecular mimicry can involve foods, bacteria, viruses and other antigens.

Molecular mimicry means two proteins share enough structural similarity that immune recognition may overlap.
Interesting? Absolutely.
Proof that every food antibody is attacking your thyroid? No.
The exact protein, antibody, preparation, tissue and clinical context matter.
Food can matter through very different pathways:
• celiac disease
• allergy
• loss of immune tolerance
• digestion/barrier function
• food processing
• molecular mimicry
Those mechanisms should not be treated as if they are all the same thing.
Can food contribute to autoimmunity?
Yes. But "which foods should everyone with Hashimoto's avoid?" is the wrong question.
The better question is: Which food-related mechanisms are actually relevant to this person?
A short thread. ↓
AIP is a tool, not a verdict.
The goal is not the smallest possible food list. It is to learn from how your body responds and work toward the broadest nourishing diet you can tolerate.

You may be:
• eating too little
• dropping carbs too quickly
• rapidly increasing fiber
• reacting to an AIP-approved food
• eating more histamine-rich foods
• repeating too few foods
• changing medication/supplement timing
And sometimes something else is going on.
If you started AIP and actually felt worse, that does not necessarily mean you need to “push through.”
And it does not automatically mean you are detoxing.
Your response may be useful information.

Psoriasis and rosacea can both cause red, inflamed skin, but they are very different conditions.
Scale, flushing, location, visible blood vessels, nail changes, and symptoms elsewhere on the body can all offer clues.
