⠀
now he’s glancing down at their hands, brown irises diverting back up to her afterward as that smile began to fade ever so slowly. “hey, uh, you alright?”
⠀ ⠀
⠀
he took note of the slight hesitation, brows drawing together for a moment. the repetition of his name only made his lips curl into a slow, uncertain smile. “that’s me.”
⠀ ⠀
there's a half-second where the name lands wrong; 𝙧𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩, but wrong, like a word repeated too many times until it stops making sense.
she takes his hand anyway, the shake quick, a little unsteady.
❝𝘱𝘦𝘵𝘦𝘳——❞ she repeats, mostly to herself, testing the shape of it. >
⠀
“yeah … déjà vu.” an awkward chuckle slipping past his lips this time. “mine usually comes with, like, a really specific smell or something.” he caught himself rambling before finally extending a hand.
⠀ ⠀
❝yeah, no, we haven't.❞ a beat. ❝i don't know. déjà vu, maybe.❞
it's not a real answer and she knows it. she tucks a strand of hair back, gaze flicking over him once more before she makes herself stop; like she's trying to place a song she can't name, some tune stuck just >
⠀
he blinked, caught slightly off guard by the explanation, brows lifting slightly. ⠀
“familar .ᐣ” glancing at her for a second longer, his head tilted slightly. “i uh, don’t think we’ve met before.”
⠀ ⠀
the wave catches her off guard—— she hadn't meant to get caught staring, & for a second she just blinks at him like she's been unplugged mid-thought.
❝...sorry,❞ she says, closing a little of the distance without totally meaning to. ❝you looked familiar for a second. my bad.❞
⠀
he caught the stare, glancing behind himself as if she might’ve been looking at someone else. ⠀
still, he’s raising his hand to deliver a small, awkward wave.
