This is how Norway celebrated the victory over the Brazil national team. Both goals were scored by Haaland
After Norway’s win over Brazil in the Round of 16 of the World Cup (2–1), large street celebrations took place in Oslo.
During the fireworks display, around 30 people sought medical assistance. According to police, all of them suffered minor injuries.
The incidents were linked to careless use of pyrotechnics in crowded areas.
This week, we had productive work at the G7 Summit, at the meetings of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group and the European Council, and in bilateral meetings with partners. Every conversation focused on how to provide greater protection for our people, how to support our warriors, and how to bring the end of the war closer.
Nine countries announced contributions to the PURL program totaling nearly $1 billion – thank you, this is exactly what is needed most right now. We also worked on pressure against Russia – there were new sanctions from the United Kingdom and Canada, and we are already actively engaged in dialogue with the EU to ensure that the 21st sanctions package comes sooner and restricts Russia precisely where it will be felt most.
Overall, following the UDCG meeting, partners announced $4 billion in new assistance for our country. We are returning home with new capabilities for defense. I thank all our friends who continue to support Ukraine. Every assistance package saves the lives of our people from Russian strikes and helps bring peace closer.
We welcome @Europarl_EN adopting a resolution on countering 🇨🇳 transnational repression.
Its recognition of the extraterritorial reach of #HongKong’s National Security Law, including threats, arrest warrants and bounties targeting activists and academics in Europe, is an important step towards protecting democratic freedoms and those who have made the 🇪🇺 their home.

🚨 JUST IN: Poland detains suspected killer of Russian artist Skrepetsky
The suspect was carrying a Georgian passport, Prime Minister Donald Tusk said.
The operation was carried out by police officers from Lublin together with agents of Poland’s Internal Security Agency (ABW).
The key question now is who ordered the brazen murder. According to Tusk, security services are already working to identify the mastermind behind the crime.
This week, I prepared a special letter addressed to the President of the United States and to Congress. And yesterday, the letter was officially delivered to the institutions in Washington. It is quite rare for the leader of another state to address both the President and Congress of the United States simultaneously with a letter. But the situation now requires action, swift and effective action.
It is important that America hear Ukraine. We understand that much of the world’s attention is currently focused on the war in Iran. But the war here in Europe must also be brought to an end – a very bloody war that is already in its fifth year at full scale.
The sooner we are able to provide greater protection against ballistic threats, the sooner we will be able to make diplomacy work. As long as Russia continues to rely on missiles, its interest in diplomacy is not real. We must correct this. And we can do so only together with America.
Ukraine is grateful to America for all its support. And Ukraine will be even more grateful for a dignified peace and guaranteed security. All of this is possible – if there is sufficient determination.
In an internal memo today, Hong Kong Justice Secretary Paul Lam threatened to root out and prosecute DoJ staff who disclosed DPP Anthony Chau's abuses of office and affair. It seems there will be no investigation of Chau--just a witch hunt against whistleblowers.
In #HongKong today, lighting a candle in memory of June 4th is criminalised as ‘inciting subversion’.
As closing arguments begin in the national security trial of two Tiananmen vigil organisers, we urge the authorities to uphold international obligations and drop the charges against those detained for peacefully exercising their fundamental rights.

Mainland travelling to Hong Kong's Basalt Island boasts about catching large amounts of local sea urchins for consumption. The unregulated capture and poaching of local marine life by Mainland tourists is becoming a increasing cause for concern by local environmentalists.
New for The Guardian: Under China’s forceful integration policies, after just weeks in preschool, Tibetan children “completely stopped speaking” their mother tongue, took on a Chinese identity, disconnecting ties that were passed down generations.

Ukraine is not refusing negotiations. We remain in constant contact with all key partners. We are also in constant touch with the American side, both directly through our representatives and through friends of Ukraine who support diplomacy.
Of course, we will keep trying to find a path that leads Russia to end this war. But whatever the course of events, Ukraine must enter the next winter fully prepared.
Is it true that "Taiwan has been a part of China since ancient times", as Beijing often claims?
No, not at all.
Here are some inconvenient facts which most people don't know. I invite the swarm of CCP trolls to try to unpick them.
✅ FACT: Before 1624, Taiwan was inhabited by indigenous Malay-Austronesian populations with no official Chinese administrative presence.
✅ FACT: The Dutch established formal administrative control over Taiwan in 1624, which was recognised by Ming Dynasty representatives as being "beyond [Chinese] territory." The Dutch found no evidence of Chinese administrative control.
✅ FACT: In 1662, the Ming loyalist Koxinga expelled the Dutch after himself being expelled from the mainland. He founded an independent kingdom, seeking to reestablish Ming rule. But the Ming Dynasty itself had already collapsed. This was not rule by "China".
✅ FACT: From 1683 to 1887, Taiwan was managed as a province of Fujien; but Emperor Kangxi considered Taiwan beyond his domain. Indeed, he said as much: ‘Taiwan is outside our empire and of no great consequence.’ There were popular revolts throughout this period.
✅ FACT: Taiwan was formally administered as a province of China for eight years, from 1887 until it was ceded to Japan in 1895. This is the only such period. Shorter than the Dutch.
✅ FACT: Following the 1895 Treaty of Shimonoseki, the Qing Empire ceded Taiwan to Japan "in perpetuity".
✅ FACT: Local leaders briefly declared an independent Formosa Republic in 1895 to resist Japanese rule, but the Japanese shut this down within five months.
✅ FACT: Between 1926 and 1942, both the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and the Kuomintang (KMT) supported independence for Taiwan, viewing it similarly to Korea (as an essential part of an anti-Japanese military strategy).
✅ FACT: The CCP changed its mind. After WW2, the party coalesced around an effort to reclaim "lost territories". In 1943 Cairo and 1945 Potsdam declarations were issued which, while not formal treaties, maintained that "all the territories Japan has stolen from the Chinese, such as Manchuria, Formosa (Taiwan), and the Pescadores, shall be restored to the Republic of China". The 1951 San Francisco Peace Treaty left Taiwan’s legal status "undetermined."
✅ FACT: The People's Republic of China (established 1949) has never, in any capacity, exercised control over Taiwan.
As to the territorial claim of what constitutes "China", worthy of note is the highly variable claims to territory (not to mention autonomy and governance structures) over even the past 150 years. See below.
Today in Damascus. We continue our active Ukrainian diplomacy aimed at real security and economic cooperation. Important meetings lie ahead – several substantive formats have been prepared. Every nation and every region deserves a peaceful life.
I sincerely congratulate everyone in Ukraine and around the world who is celebrating Easter today.
In these very difficult times for our people and for all humanity, hope grows stronger than ever – the hope for the triumph of life over death, good over evil, and truth over lies. All that is symbolized by the Resurrection of the Lord.
May the strength of every one of our people, their spirit, and everything that is best in humanity – may all of it inevitably overcome evil and darkness, “shaheds” and missiles, injustice and occupation.
I wish everyone God’s grace and a peaceful life on our land and under Ukrainian skies, protected by our brave warriors.
May all prayers for protection from evil be heard today. May faith unite kind hearts and strengthen those who defend their home. May every nation come closer to true security. We believe in peace! We believe in Ukraine!
Happy Easter!
As we prepare to celebrate #Easter, our co-founder and Chair @benedictrogers has written this message of hope for those in jail or under persecution in #HongKong and beyond 👇

Hong Kong police raided one of the city's last truly independent book stores, Book Punch, and arrested the owners and staff for sedition. Among other "sensitive" titles, the store was selling a biography on political prisoner Jimmy Lai by @MarkLClifford of @thecfhk.
When a book recounting a man's life story is a seditious threat to the government, that's a good sign the government is ideologically bankrupt and desperate to cling to power.
