@ssteacherftw@Coach_Steve21 Agree. Unfortunately as much as I hate it, I’m going to side with the kids because to be honest it’s the only power most of them hold in the situation. The coaches pulling offers because “it’s just business” are making everyone else look bad.
@ssteacherftw@Coach_Steve21 I feel for you in this situation because it sounds like you keep your word. That said, look at all of the coaches revoking offers to kids at the last minute and no one can be surprised when kids start behaving similarly.
@TrustTrost High school soccer needs pro/rel. Probably more than just about any other high school sport. You absolutely cannot have competitive divisions by simply organizing on school size.
Further evidence that the United States has a culture of leagues and not a culture of clubs. The idea that there is a unified national platform is pure smoke. Harboring team-based leagues and club-based leagues under one roof does not create a unified platform. players and families are still being trained to value “elite” leagues over the club to which they belong. The only way to solve this problem is for @ussoccer to create a single national team-based league with many regional divisions and subdivisions and promotion/relegation. Hard? Yes. But NASA just sent the Artemis II astronauts to the moon. How hard can killing off the elite leagues be? The quality of youth soccer in the United States and the development of American youth players will not improve until we have a culture of clubs. Like it or not, there is a silent war going on and it is between clubs and elite leagues.
@LaceUpSoccer Yes and no. The clubs that control the market that get all of the talent can get away with murder because they don’t actually have to coach. They don’t develop anyone. They just acquire the best talent.
Gatekeepers of a closed system. Tells more of the story.
@SaraciKevin@hudsonm_21@itskevyday@KevinGArmstrong@StevePoliti Tell me how many high school seniors are getting a significant amount of money in D1 soccer scholarships. The numbers don’t justify this as anything other than a way to stroke egos and empty wallets.
@SaraciKevin@KevinGArmstrong@StevePoliti No, it’s ALL homegrown division teams. This includes teams ranked 400+ (literally into the 1000+ sometimes) in their age groups.
This juice is simply not worth the squeeze for the vast majority of kids. The actual MLS academies, absolutely, I get it.
@the_1archangel@davemeltzerWON It’s an industry full of carnies passing Dave info under the table and also trying to work him and the subscribers at the same time. I assume everything Dave reports comes with the caveat “this is what X and/or Y unnamed carny told me, take it with a grain of salt” pretty often.
@THEChrisKessell It’s honestly terrible for travel because qualifying out of regionals means you’re booking flights with like three weeks notice and paying crazy rates. I actually think this format might be better for getting coaches on site with a higher number of teams in the age groups
