The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is one of five major patches of plastic in the our world's oceans.

Accumulating between California and Hawaii, it is estimated to be anywhere from the size of Texas (270,000 square miles) to the size of Russia (5,800,000 square miles).

According to research, the likelihood of coral becoming diseased increases from 4% to 89% after coming in contact with marine plastic. It also damages the skin of coral, allowing infection.
