At its peak, Sun Microsystems was valued at 205B (394B if inflation adjusted). Sold software in enterprise servers. Got disrupted by Linux, x86, and commodity hardware. Ended up selling to Oracle for 7.4B, losing 96% of its value.
Open source models running on local hardware can have a similar impact given what’s going on.
@JayaGup10 Feedback loops in AI model development are much shorter than drug development. I doubt there will be FDA-like red tape in model development, no matter how big the AI regulatory regime gets. Conforming to safety guardrails is much easier than hitting p values on novel drugs.
Getting acquired once is hard. Getting acquired multiple times is not luck. Intake Genie was Faizan’s 4th acquisition on @acquiredotcom.
His approach is simple: target small, fragmented SMB markets where word of mouth already works.
In those niches, distribution already exists. The buyer knows exactly who to sell to, the software just fits into the workflow.
So he doesn’t chase scale or flashy growth.
He builds narrow products. One workflow. One vertical. Runs without him. Easy to understand and easy to hand off.
That’s why Intake Genie sold fast. Buyer fit mattered more than early metrics. If you want repeatable exits, this is how people are doing it.
