An American woman walks into a store in Tokyo and says to the staff: "Thank God, finally someone who speaks English. This is the first time I'm meeting someone with impeccable English here."

Mahendra Lal Sircar, a Calcutta physician, spent years raising donations for something that barely existed in India at the time: a place where Indians could pursue science.
The Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS) was inaugurated in 1876. But for years, the institution struggled to attract people who would actually take up scientific research.
Sircar died in 1904, disappointed that the institution had not fulfilled the research vision he had imagined for it.
Then, in 1907, a young government employee was travelling by tram in Calcutta when he noticed the signboard of IACS.
He got down, walked in and told Amrit Lal Sircar, the founder's son, that he wanted to use the lab.
Amrit Lal embraced him and said that they had been waiting for someone like him all these years.
That young man was C. V. Raman.
21 years later, in 1928, the Raman Effect was discovered in that very lab.
Civilisations do not survive on sentiment alone. They endure when institutions think beyond election cycles, headlines and short term reactions.
@infinitchy makes the case for a long term Hindu institutional ecosystem focused on education, culture, law, research and civilisational continuity.

Before Bollywood knew their names, they were already on Doordarshan.
Arjun Rampal, Milind Soman and R. Madhavan in A Mouthful of Sky,India’s first English daily serial, 1995.
Rahul Bose, Simone Singh and Neesha Singh were in it too.
Neesha walked away at her peak. Married, moved to Singapore, and chose family over the screen. She later said acting was a shauk, not a junoon.
I have a gut feeling this is going to be big. The look and feel of this is unexplainably divine.
After years of Rayesque poverty porn movies, the Bengali film industry is going have its Kantara moment.
@deep_poharkar I'm in the applying stage right now. Is there any way to automate this process, cuz modifying according to role and applying is taking too much time.
When people think that a highly educated, single, unmarried man with a fulfilling tech career, a presence in social, literary and philosophical pursuits, and a financially independent life must be simply enjoying himself because he has ‘no responsibilities’…
Meanwhile, my enjoyment… 👇🏻
