Great way to think about ingesting information with an investor mindset. It's always important to look for "the story behind the story" and the underappreciated trends or changes - including unexpected connections.
One of the more consequential things we try to instill is thinking in a “connected” manner. In other words, how does the information you are in receipt of “connect” to other strategies and positions in the portfolio. We believe that taking copious notes in a manager meeting is broadly useless. Such is akin to writing a book report. But what IS useful is the one or two comments that relate to a change in the direction of markets or consumer behavior…or foundational changes in a sector or industry…or a relationship between securities or indices that shouldn’t exist. THOSE are important to disseminate and position around. The rest is busy work that will have little value over the coming weeks and months. Yet “connecting” disparate bits of information to strategies or companies throughout the book is not innate…it must be learned. And, in our experience, it is one of the more difficult aspects of the business to teach to younger analysts.
@DAYTONA Can we access the fan zone while the first race is underway today (say between 1-2pm)? And then can we cross the track before the 500 to get to our seats? What time will we be required to cross the track to get to our seats for the 500?
@drdrsteph Classic. Every form of Mexican food is currently "tacos" because "tacos are delicious." Chicken fajitas? Tacos. Ground turkey tacos? Tacos. Beef burrito? Tacos.
@KPMcDaniel I spy with my little eye a...gin & tonic to counteract the "love" being expressed via the photo? Or maybe seltzer with a lime...but gin & tonic seems more appropriate.
