@CopperKnight8 I think it ultimately traces its roots to Robert E Howard/Conan’s Atlantis, where it was part of mythic background. It even uses the same language (“Pre-cataclysmic Age”) here

And after all, Marvel’s vampires are explicitly tied to Conan mythos
