@brucefenton How is that different than various centralized exchanges (Gemini, Kraken, Coinbase etc) facilitating trading in crypto? Any of them can have the same issue as Robinhood with poor capitalization, margin trading standards.
@SIGFxpro@saxena_puru Very unlikely. Unless the sovereign assumes 100% computer literacy, every citizen having mobile phone/computer.
Certainly not possible in India for several years (if not decades)
@justinhonse@DiMartinoBooth Thanks - this looks like a exhaustive set of resources on CBDCs.
One thing I’m curious is whether there’s any talk of gold backing for any of the CBDCs? Otherwise, it will suffer with most current fiat ills (except for the Blockchain advantages).
@justinhonse@DiMartinoBooth And the question of new Fintechs “disintermediating” banks sounds a separate question (independent of CBDC vs current digital dollars question).
Whoever has more efficient, or cheap or better user experience wins.
@justinhonse@DiMartinoBooth So the question is where do consumers keep their CBDC deposits. If in Central bank digital wallet, then CB needs to do direct lending function (not their mandate). If in banks, it’s the same as status quo.
@justinhonse@DiMartinoBooth Or is the argument simply that Fintech (eg., SoFi etc) does a better job than traditional banks? That seems weak as lot of banks catching up w digital platforms (eg., Marcus by GS).
@DiMartinoBooth Also how does it kill banks? Only if central banks directly want to get in the business of making retail, corporate loans (and managing loan books), ie becoming commercial banks themselves.
@DiMartinoBooth How is it different than having negative rates with the current digital dollars in your favorite bank? If you don’t want to pay either, buy your favorite asset instead - equities, gold, real estate etc
@beernameno Answer is available in this video (1:12 to 1:27). Already ton of work on Post-quantum cryptography.

@michael_saylor Do you think Quantum computing advances (over next few years) might pose a existential threat to bitcoin n/w security if current cryptography machinery (SHA-256 etc) become solvable?
The artificial intelligence lab DeepMind built a computer system that can identify the shape of a protein in mere hours. This long-sought breakthrough could accelerate the ability to understand diseases and help develop new medicines.
