Villa College's Faculty of Health Sciences recently held its fourth Oath Taking and White Coat Ceremony, continuing a tradition we first introduced to the Maldives. Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Aishath Mala, opened the occasion with welcoming remarks.

White coats were presented to students of the Bachelor of Pharmacy, Certificate 4 in Pharmacy, and National Certificate 3 in Phlebotomy by the Minister of Health, Family and Welfare, Ms Geela Ali; Rector Dr Ahmed Anwar; Vice Rector Associate Professor Dr Ali Najeeb; and Dean, Faculty of Health Sciences, Aishath Mala.

The professional oath, taken by students of the Bachelor of Pharmacy, Certificate 4 in Pharmacy, Diploma in Nursing, Certificate 4 in Nursing, and National Certificate 3 in Phlebotomy, was administered by Ms Aminath Zeeniya, Managing Director of Aasandha Company Limited and Registered Nurse Midwife. We are grateful to Ms Zeeniya for leading our students in this pledge. In total, 104 students took part.

Chief Guest Ms Geela Ali and Vice Rector Associate Professor Dr Ali Najeeb each addressed the students, reflecting on the responsibilities that come with a career in healthcare. Our sincere thanks go to the Minister for joining us and for her encouragement to serve with honesty and compassion.

The oath is a simple promise to serve with integrity and care, and it marks the moment these students step towards the profession the Maldives will one day depend on them for.

Villa College has hosted a full-day Basic Psychological First Aid (PFA) workshop, equipping 25 members of staff to support others through moments of crisis and distress. The session was facilitated by Sidra Akhtar, Senior Lecturer at the School of Psychology and Counselling, who holds PFA trainer certification from the ICRC, IFRC and PRCS.

Through interactive, hands-on exercises, participants explored the LOOK, LISTEN, LINK framework, developing the skills to identify signs of distress, listen with genuine empathy and connect people to the right support. Colleagues from departments across the college took part, spanning teaching, health and psychology roles as well as finance, registration and IT. Each completed the day with a certificate recognising 6 hours of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

The value of this training extends beyond the room where it took place. It shapes how we notice, respond and support one another, on campus and beyond.

At Villa College, the School of Hospitality, Tourism and Experiential Industries recently welcomed The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands, to campus for a Guest Lecture Series on the theme 'Hospitality: Skills for a Lifetime.'

The panel brought together five members of the resort team from very different corners of the operation: Ahmed Nadheem, Assistant Director of Human Resources; Abdullah Ahnaf, Outlet Manager; Ibrahim Hassan, Loss Prevention Manager; Adam Hussain, Assistant Landscaping Manager; and Mohamed Yooshau Uzair, Assistant Guest Relations Manager. Each spoke candidly about their career journey and what leadership, teamwork and service excellence ask of them day to day.

For our students, it was a chance to learn directly from those shaping the industry, ask their own questions, and see how many paths a career in luxury hospitality can take. We are grateful to the Ritz-Carlton team for their time and insight.

Villa College, together with Universal Foundation and Versa Hospitality, celebrated the newest graduates of the Discover Hospitality Programme on Wednesday. At a ceremony held at the Islamic Centre, 24 graduates of Certificate 3 in Hospitality and Certificate 3 in Culinary Arts received their certificates from Chief Guest Dr Ismail Shafeeu, Minister of Education, Higher Education and Skills Development. Proceedings also included a panel discussion with hospitality professionals from Baros Maldives, Niva Velassaru Maldives, Niva Kurumba Maldives and Huvafen Fushi Maldives, offering graduates valuable perspective on careers across the industry.

The occasion marked the start of two new intakes, as 30 students received sponsorship letters to begin Batch 8 in Hospitality and Batch 3 in Culinary Arts. Fully funded by Universal Foundation, the programme combines classroom learning at Villa College with practical training at Universal resorts, offering young Maldivians a direct path into tourism careers. Since 2017, the partnership has produced 179 graduates.

Together with Rector Dr. Ahmed Anwar, we bid farewell to Professor Ma from CLC and welcome Professor Ren, the new appointee.

Over the past two years, Professor Ma has worked tirelessly to lay the foundation and promote the growth of CLC, and has become the most recognizable Chinese figure in the Maldives. Through learning Chinese, many Maldivian friends have come to know her, and through her, they have learned more about China.

We believe that Professor Ren will take up the baton and go further along the path of Sino-Maldivian cultural cooperation. We look forward to seeing, with the support of CLC at @VillaCollegeMv, more Maldivian friends fall in love with the Chinese language and gain a deeper understanding of China.

Villa College was pleased to share its expertise on sustainability through an engaging online webinar delivered by Vice Rector, Dr Ali Najeeb for St. Ignatius University Kabale (Uganda).

Titled “Villa College Maldives’ Best Practices in Sustainability,” the session highlighted key initiatives undertaken by the College to promote sustainable practices across its operations, reinforcing the value of strategic and meaningful sustainability work.

The webinar was attended by members of the University Council of St. Ignatius University, Kebale, fostering meaningful dialogue and exchange at an institutional level. A key takeaway from the session was the importance of aligning sustainability initiatives with the unique context of each institution—recognising the role of community, culture, and existing strengths in shaping impactful and lasting outcomes.

The session concluded with an interactive Q&A, where Dr Najeeb addressed questions from participants, ending on a positive note with shared interest in future collaborative engagements.

This initiative also contributes to the advancement of Sustainable Development Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), highlighting the importance of global collaboration, knowledge sharing, and institutional partnerships in driving sustainable development.

Villa College's Faculty of Health Sciences, in collaboration with Life Care Medical Center, hosted a complimentary Health Screening Camp on 14 April 2026 for staff across Villa College and Villa International High School.

The health camp offered a comprehensive range of services including vital signs and basic screening, laboratory investigations, diagnostic tests such as ECG, dental and vision screening, general head-to-toe assessments, physician and dermatology consultations, physiotherapy, and psychological screening and support.

Organised in association with the Villa College Health Society and VCARE Counselling and Psychotherapy Centre, the initiative reflects our belief that healthy employees build a stronger workplace. Caring for those who shape our institution is, quite simply, part of how we define a thriving academic community.
