@leninology Hi Richard, my name is george shulman; a colleague of Nikhil's. I agree with you on danger, though he rightly sees the inertial forces. here is a link to a piece i wrote, you may find some resonances, and will also disagree.

@bonnie_honig @jktulis yes, big book, slowly, with supplemental readings along the way. for several years i did plato's republic and machiavelli , the two-book model. the focus is incredible and the class develops a shared language and reference
@michelleinbklyn Hi Michelle, my name is George Shulman, i teach political theory and american studies at NYU's Gallatin School and i appreciate your orientation on most issues. I wanted to send you something i wrote, 4000 words, do you ever accept such things? thanks
@jl_locke_ me, too, all rejections, which is more my norm, actually. i will have an at-home semester, and hope to complete a full draft of my impasse book. what are you going to work on?
@nikhil_palsingh i appreciate you sharing how you feel. i feel brittle too,
like i wonder if i will or could dance again, and i loved dancing.. i would add fatigue to the litany, deep weariness, worn out. but as you say, there is so much to be grateful for, though i don't often enough feel it
@nikhil_palsingh@joelowndes i remember it well :) i see huge opportunities: neo-liberalism and intervention discredited plus massive popular organizing. 'interregnum' thus seems a useful frame -what is dying what emerging, very fluid? I dont see trump as end of arc, that may be our big difference
@nikhil_palsingh@joelowndes Who is the "we" moving left? half the electorate (and their children?) are not moving left, are armed, and are more than ever explicitly anti-democratic in basic senses. Anti- intervention has been more a right than left issue. deep anti-statism via individualism is not left.
@nikhil_palsingh@joelowndes the great moving right show via Thatcher, seems different thing than what is going on here now. the F term is a problem because analogies with Germany are mostly false, but "right" or "authoritarian" is too bodiless or bloodless & obscures the reasons Toscana says racial fascism
