Audiences already have major trust issues with new movie releases because of paid promo and influencer campaigns that have led to so many box office flops. By selling away an independently made platform global platform like Letterboxd to Hollywood studios you risk further alienation. People simply need a place they can trust to have no interference to keep the moviegoing experience alive.
Studios should not be allowed to buy a movie review app. It’s a huge conflict of interest that will prey on the general public’s desires for superficial recognition as studios tend to reward positive pr seen with influencers.
