@winstonpeters Winston, sorry, but this is pathetic. The WHO does extremely important work in protecting us all from diseases. They investigate outbreaks, such as ebola, track, contain and manage. Without them, we could easily have more disease outbreaks, some of which could go global.
#NZ governments have respected the independence of country’s central bank since law passed in 1989 which took effect in 1990. But MAGA-style government in NZ now puts this independence in question, a very disturbing development. @ReserveBankofNZ https://t.co/MMlH0gM1FJ
The Luxon government's decision to reject stronger climate targets from the Climate Change Commission will cost New Zealand households dearly in the years to come.

My message to leaders at the #COP30 Climate Conference:
We can choose to lead – or be led to ruin.
Choose speed, scale & solidarity.
Choose to make this the turning point.
Stand with science.
Stand for justice & future generations.
What makes America great is not fear — it’s freedom.
The right to dissent and speak your mind.
To challenge those in power.
To vote how you choose.
We must stand up for the freedoms millions fought and died to defend — not let any president intimidate or silence us.
Good news from Rakiura! 🌿🐦
The world’s last pukunui southern dotterels are back on their nests – a sign of hope for one of New Zealand's rarest birds. 💚
Feral cats, rats, hedgehogs and possums had pushed the pukunui southern dotterel to the brink of extinction, with just 105 birds counted in April. 😔 But a recent rapid-response aerial pest-control operation using biodegradable 1080 baits across 40,000 hectares have turned things around. 🙌
Photos snapped from over 300 remote trail cameras after the 1080 operation is living proof of the success of this operation: no feral cats or possums were seen but many kiwi were. Lots of other native species of plants, birds, bugs, and bats will also benefit by not being under attack from introduced predators.
If adjacent pest control trials prove successful, Rakiura could become the world’s largest predator-free inhabited island. Imagine kākāpō back in these forests, seabirds filling the night sky, and the abundance of native wildlife from centuries past returning.
This is what’s possible when we act fast – and work together – for nature. We hope the people of Rakiura and those that whakapapa there will celebrate in this success.
Is the pukunui southern dotterel the most endangered bird you’ve never heard of?

#DidYouKnow that @NOAA partner satellite missions such as Jason-3 and Sentinel-6 help detect, measure and model tsunamis? This data helps confirm wave height and arrival time to improve forecasts.
4 of the 5 senior historian roles at Ministry for Culture & History are being cut. This cannot fail to have a significant impact on its responsibility to research #NZ history & maintain & update critical online platforms like Te Ara. @ManatuTaonga https://t.co/MRuSFJvzfd
Andrea Vance nails it in Sunday Star Times:
"Saving money by canceling justice and then claiming they are doing feminism a favour."
This Government chose landlords over New Zealand women, let's remember that this Mother's Day and every day till the election. #PayEquityNow
Risk of #NZ Government damaging public science institutions with a botched set of changes to the system. @NZ_PCE Upton is “particularly concerned about the preservation of long-term databases collected by @mwlr_nz Landcare Research: https://t.co/9Mr3lPiRB6

NZ is one of the worst
culprits in this abhorrent practice.
NZ is the only country still bottom trawling in international waters of the South Pacific where they still target coral ancient forests seamounts habitats.

Today’s Executive Order directing @NOAA to expedite permitting for deep-sea mining flies in the face of NOAA’s mission to protect, not imperil, our ocean.
