Full council at @Kent_cc was an 8 hour meeting today - here are the highlights from 1000:

🔹We opened proceedings with the Lord’s Prayer
🔹At the start of full council a special debate was held following a motion that I proposed and Kent County Council voted to award the Freedom of the County of Kent to the Brigade of Gurkhas, recognising more than two centuries of loyal service to the United Kingdom and the Brigade’s contribution to communities across Kent. The motion attracted cross-party support
🔹My Leader’s report updated on my new role as Deputy Director on the Board of the Local Government Association helping to shape policy direction during a period of flux for local government. I also updated on meetings with the Chief Exec of Southeast Water, our DOLGE strategy document launch and my annual report at Scrutiny Committee
🔹I then made a statement to Council on the recent 'pausing' of LGR for Kent and how the administration will send a pre-action protocol letter to the Secretary of State, a necessary next step in challenging the Government’s decision of 16th July and protecting KCC’s position. I feel we have to do this as we are in limbo with a "pause" to LGR not a "withdrawal".
🔹We supported and voted through the Lib Dems motion to establish a Veterans Community Resilience Task and Finish Group to examine and identify the responsibilities the Council will have under the Armed Forces Bill
🔹We voted down the Greens motion to establish a target of 20mph limits on 75% of Kent's roads by 2030. It cost multi millions in Wales and it simply hasn't worked. We already look at 20mph limits in Kent for areas near schools or small villages on a case by case basis.
🔹Finally, we voted down the Restore motion to extend free bus travel for concessionary pass holders before 9:30am. The cost of this would be immense and we think residents would rather have the money spent on more buses than allowing pensioners free travel before 9:30 (when buses are full of school children in any case!)
🔹The meeting closed with the national anthem.

▶️ EXACTLY ONE MONTH AGO TODAY◀️ every single opposition member cited a made up reason (totally ignoring the ruling of both the Monitoring Officer and the Chairman) of why they couldn’t possibly debate our motion that Kent is facing an illegal migration emergency.

Frit. All of them.

🆘 Over 5000 people, mainly men, have broken into our country via Kent, in just the first 4 months of 2026 🆘

If that’s not an emergency then I don’t know what is.

In this video after the uniparty walkout you firstly see the interview with Lib Dem leader Cllr Anthony Hook, flanked by Restore Cllr Oliver Bradshaw - Maidstone Central (who to give him credit appears to be slightly uncomfortable - perhaps it’s dawned on him how bad this looks for Restore) and then Conservative Leader Cllr Harry Rayner being interviewed sitting very comfortably with Restore Cllrs Paul Thomas - Maidstone South, Maxine Fothergill - Sevenoaks Rural North East and unsuccessfully trying to hide in the background Cllr Dean Burns - Ashford East.

Make up your own mind but I’d say these politicians put self and party before people and county.

Good morning all! Let’s take off the gloves.

It’s almost exactly one month ago that the Restore group, led by Cllr Paul Thomas, joined the Greens, Lib Dems, Labour and the Tories in refusing to acknowledge that we have an illegal migration emergency here in Kent.

‼️In 2026, there have been over 5000 known arrivals on our shores in just 4 months‼️

On 19 March at KCC full council, all 7 Restore Cllrs joined the uniparty and chose to put party politics and self interest ahead of the wider interests of the people of Kent.

They all walked out of the chamber instead of staying and voting either for or against our motion, using a made up excuse as their rationale.

Remember that when you see them banging on about taking a tough stance on illegal immigration.

They showed you who they are; they’re the same as the rest. Believe them.
