@AnorexiaMyths I grieve for this, it’s been many years since we had a family lunch. After numerous traumatic admissions, my adult daughter doesn’t want recovery. Her diet consists only of porridge & cereal bars late at night on her own. It makes me sad beyond measure.

@AgnesAyton @jamesldowns Wish my daughter could have been under your care in Oxford & started therapy at the same time as weight restoration. I pushed for this but was told therapy wasn’t effective until weight restored. Missed opportunity & too late for my daughter now, she’s not wanting recovery.

@jamesldowns This is a difficult one & a real dilemma for me. My adult daughter has a BMI of 14; sectioned last year, now out of hospital after gaining minimal amount of weight; traumatised by her hospital experience & now monitored only by GP. She rejects recovery, is happy & living her life

@AgnesAyton As a parent, knowledge of eating disorders is woefully inadequate. I either take a copy of the MEED guidelines or get the doctor to refer online to it whenever I’ve been to A& E with my daughter. I’m a health professional myself & am shocked by the ignorance of doctors about ED

@johnboyne Just finished reading it & didn’t want it to end, wonderful book, loved the characters & a great insight into prejudices faced. I remember being a young nurse in the 80’s looking after AIDS patients & the ignorance they faced.

@AgnesAyton Interesting study & also frustrating. My adult daughter is on her 3rd inpatient stay under section this time. I have been pushing for therapy for her whilst an inpatient & eventually it was agreed but it’s only once a week & too little too late as she doesn’t want recovery now.

@Capacitylaw Just read your paper on Anorexia: handing back control. My daughter is under section 3 which we want to appeal. She doesn’t want recovery from anorexia but to manage in her own way. We have seen a marked deterioration in her mental wellbeing under section which is more concerning

@ImPaulMcKenna This is a question from a desperate Mum. My daughter is very ill with anorexia & is an inpatient at an ED unit. No treatment has worked in the 7 years she has had this eating disorder. Could hypnosis could be a possibility & have you had experience with this illness?

@AnorexiaMyths @adamfare1996 Absolutely true. My daughter phoned me in severe distress tonight from the ED unit where she’s been for the last 4 months, saying she doesn’t want to live at the weight she is now (BMI 12) & doesn’t want recovery. Really hard to hear & feel helpless.

@HSJEditor My 82 year old mother diagnosed with covid today. She has been in hospital for 3 weeks, caught it from another patient.

@dad_eating @BBCPanorama @BBCOne As an NHS professional I trusted staff to provide my daughter with the level of care & compassion I give my patients but instead feel despairing of MH services . Total lack of empathy in MH eating disorder unit. Qualified staff who don’t care and agency HCAs who sleep on duty.

@BBCPanorama @BBCOne Horrified watching Panorama tonight but sadly this isn’t an isolated case. My daughter was recently in a eating disorder unit with anorexia. I witnessed shortage of qualified staff, no care or compassion. Unit mainly staffed by agency HCAs who were asleep or on phones on duty.

@RichardEGrant Thank you @RichardEGrant for sharing so openly how everyday events can affect you after the loss of your wife. I lost my father less than 2 months ago & still see something & think I must tell Dad that then remember it’s not possible, and the grief hits like a sledgehammer.

@doctor_oxford We are having so many covid positive patients in maternity, many more than in the first waves. This is impacting on midwifery care and capacity of the unit. Far too early to end Plan B; a political distraction from misdemeanours at No. 10.

@DeborahMeaden We are being overwhelmed in maternity with admissions of covid positive pregnant women which is having an impact on midwifery care for others. Higher admission rate than in previous waves. Definitely a political/distraction move for Boris!
