The farming population in the US is aging. Farming is the lifeline of our food system and it is imperative that we expose young people to careers in farming & make farming more financially accessible. @ENYFARMS runs a yearly youth internship program!!!

In 1910, Black farmers operated 14% of farms. In 2017, that number had become just 1.4%. Southwest Black Farmers is an AZ based, Black-owned family ranch that set out to tackle #FoodInsecurity upon noticing the scarcity in local grocery stores at the start of the pandemic.

Since I couldn't find a full list of local Black-owned farms, I thought I would highlight some in this thread. East New York Farms (@ENYFARMS) hosts a farmers market in June-Nov, and it is the only place in #ENY to purchase #local, #organic #produce.

It's no secret that #AnimalProducts are terrible for the #environment, as livestock account for ~14.5% of #GreenhouseGas emissions. Lab-grown meat might be a solution! I do wonder how such projects will fare in the food regulatory scheme. Thoughts? #FLFA21

It is worrisome that many of the guidelines that encourage making food #choices is a privilege many cannot afford, esp. those who rely on #FoodBanks.
