@krisdarzins While there are some uni influences from their lecturers, many of them came through self practice in calligraphy using pens and markers before eventually started doing fonts. That's also maybe the reason of dozens of display serif fonts with swashes and high contrast.
When simulation becomes the norm, it weakens the human capacity for discernment. As a result, our social bonds close in upon themselves, forming self-referential circuits that no longer expose us to reality. We thus come to live within bubbles, impermeable to one another. Feeling threatened by anyone who is different, we grow unaccustomed to encounter and dialogue. In this way, polarization, conflict, fear and violence spread. What is at stake is not merely the risk of error, but a transformation in our very relationship with truth.
I love how learning about something intangible, like this one, made me more human. It is so fascinating how complex our brain function on a deeper level.
That's why when I'm on my lowest about presenting my thesis the next day, she told me "Don't worry, do it within your capacity and leave the results to god." hits so different now. Perhaps, a mantra that I'll keep in mind for the rest of my life in any given situation.
