as a linguistics AND music theory nerd I can safely say that... this is totally an acceptable definition of how to use the word in a colloquial context. words having definitions in common speech that contradict how they're used in jargon is 100% fine and normal for language
@Komaniecki_R I think they/them is a good bet for the first meeting, but I think the person then has the obligation to tell you their preferred pronouns right after if they don't like they/them for themselves. I do understand the euphoria of getting your preferred pronoun over "they" tho
