This Shadowfax COD scam is becoming bigger by the day.

A delivery executive arrives with a Cash on Delivery parcel, claims you ordered it, collects ₹800–₹900, and leaves. When you open the package, it's usually some useless cream or other cheap item...

Many of us may question it, but our parents or elders at home could easily assume it's a genuine order and pay.

The scary part? They already have your name, address, and phone number.

And here's another trick: if you refuse the parcel, they may ask for an OTP saying it's needed to cancel the COD. Never share any OTP.

Stay alert. Inform your family, especially elders.

One conversation at home can save someone from getting scammed.

There is one news story that I will never forget in this lifetime. It is about a man named Avijit Sarkar.

He was the first person to be killed by the TMC after winning the 2021 West Bengal Vidhan Sabha election.

Minutes before his gruesome murder, Avijit Sarkar took to Facebook to narrate that he had been surrounded by a mob of TMC workers.

He did not know what was written in his destiny on that fateful night. Look at the date - 2nd May 2021.

This was the last time Avijit posted on Facebook.

In the following weeks, TMC workers killed a dozen more people as part of a coordinated wave of political violence.

But the story of Avijit Sarkar never left my mind.

Avijit was holding a puppy in his hand and narrating his ordeal. At that point, he did not know that he would be killed.

I was tasked to translate his dying testimony from Bangla to English so that non-Bengalis can know his story.

Bangla is my mother tongue, and every word he spoke captivated the anxiety that a man experiences when his life is in danger.

While writing the news report, I broke down several times because I knew what happened after the video ended. It was a traumatic experience.

Death has always been a triggering subject for me. The fact that I was new to this industry and that I was already suffering from mental health issues made it worse.

It has been 5 years since that incident. Tears have dried up, but not the rage that continues to stir inside me.

This is why I have taken a pledge. As long as I am alive, I will make sure that the story of Avijit lives on.

I will leave you with something I wrote in my diary back then -

"Ek din bichar hobe. Ek din sasti hobe, adalat e na hole rastai" ( One day, there will be justice. One day, the perpetrators will be punished, either in court or on the road).

उसी दरम्यान उसके पिता सत्यपाल मित्तल कांग्रेस के राज्यसभा के सांसद बन जाते हैं।

पिता के कांग्रेस से सांसद बनने के बाद बेटा सुनील भारती मित्तल एक कंपनी बनाता है 'भारतीय ओवरसीज ट्रेडिंग कंपनी'।

उस समय तक भारत में लोकल उद्योगों को बढ़ावा देने के लिए, साइकिल के पार्ट्स इंपोर्ट करने पर 300% ड्यूटी का प्रावधान था, लेकिन इनकी फर्म को ड्यूटी में छूट दे दी गई और इन्होंने चाइना से साइकिल के पार्ट्स इंपोर्ट करके मोटा मुनाफा कमाया, और इनके इम्पोर्ट से लुधियाना में सैकड़ों छोटी छोटी साइकिल सहायक इकाइयाँ बंद हो गई।

उसके बाद: उस जमाने में भारत में बिजली बहुत कम रहती थी। भारत सरकार ने जनरेटर इंपोर्ट करने पर प्रतिबंध लगाया हुआ था। अब सेटिंग देखिये। अचानक पूरे भारत से सिर्फ एक फर्म को यानी भारती ओवरसीज को विदेश से जनरेटर इंपोर्ट करने का अनुमति दी जाती है।

फिर क्या था, सुनील मित्तल ने सुजुकी कंपनी के और होंडा के करोड़ों जनरेटर आयात करके मोटा मुनाफा कमाया। प्रसिद्ध TV सीरियलो के प्रसारण समय पर इनके इशारों पर बिजली गुल होती थी।

उसके बाद सुनील भारती मित्तल को बड़े उद्योगपति के रूप में देश में जाने लगे।

उस समय टेलिकॉम इंडस्ट्री पूरी तरह से सरकारी होती थी। इंडियन टेलीफोन इंडस्ट्रीज, यानी ITI ही टेलीफोन बनाती थी भारत में आप विदेश से टेलीफोन इंपोर्ट नहीं कर सकते थे।

पूरे भारत में सिर्फ लैंडलाइन फोन होता था, फोन भी सरकार देती थी और वह फोन कई किलो वजन का रोटरी डायल वाला होता था।

सेटिंग के चमत्कार से, अचानक सुनील भारती मित्तल को, ताइवान की कंपनी किंगटेल से पुश बटन वाले फोन आयात करने का लाइसेंस मिल जाता है और इतना ही नहीं, उनसे वह सारे ही फोन भारत सरकार का टेलीफोन विभाग खरीदने लगता है।

यानी आयात कर रहे थे सुनील भारती मित्तल, और खरीदार था भारत सरकार का टेलीफोन विभाग। पूरे भारत में इंडियन टेलीकॉम इंडस्ट्रीज की 12 से ज्यादा फैक्ट्रियां थी, लगभग बन्द जैसी हो गई। 15,00,000 कर्मचारी और अधिकारी थे उन्हें मुफ्त में सैलरी देती दी जाती रही, और सरकार विदेशी टेलीफोन सुनील भारती मित्तल से खरीद रही थी।

उसके बाद सुनील भारती मित्तल ने ताइवान की कंपनी किंगटेल के मदद से भारत में पुश बटन टेलीफोन बनाने की फैक्ट्री ही लगा ली और अपने फोन को BSNL & MTNL में सप्लाई करने लगे।

धीरे धीरे सरकारी कंपनी इंडियन टेलीफोन इंडस्ट्रीज बर्बाद हो गई, बंद हो गई।

अब जब उसी मरी हुई कंपनी को मोदी सरकार इसलिए बेच रही है कि वह कंपनी अब सरकार के गले में एक मरा हुआ हाथी है, तब सबसे पहले यही कांग्रेसी चिल्ला रहे हैं कि मोदी सरकार तो सरकारी कंपनी बेच रही है।

कांग्रेसी याद तो करो कि तुम्हारे ही कुकर्मों और भाई भतीजावाद से इन सरकारी नवरत्न कंपनियों की ये दुर्गति हुई हैं।
