These Rajput chieftains patronised many Brahmins too, including Marathi Brahmins. The famous grammarian and scholar Nagoji Bhatta(Marathi Brahmin) was patronised by a Bisen Rajput chieftain of Sringaverapura(near Allahabad), named Ram Singh(Rāma Siṃha).
@Vikramaditiya99@UpkaLaunda2 The association of the number 36 with Rajput/Kshatriya clans may also have been reinforced by the phonetic similarity between “Chhattis” and vernacular forms like “Chhatriya", becoming a poetic expression.
Also the list varies. In reality the number of clans is more than 36.
@Vikramaditiya99@UpkaLaunda2 Khas is not a caste label. It is an ethnic/regional label in Uttarakhand Hills. There are Khas Thakurs/Rajputs and Khas Bahuns/Brahmans. In Uttarakhand the system is different from both North-West and Gangetic Plains.
@silkcut33@BlackMamba7fyz He is from Chhaparband Pardesi community of Maharashtra(found in districts like Nagpur) who have appropriated Rajput surnames.

@muskmelonstan@50_grandss Deo Raj was one of the oldest and a prominent zamindari of Bihari Rajputs. They were protectors of the famous Deo Surya Mandir.
When Mathura and Vrindavan was sacked it was in Jat territory and although Rajputs were not there, Marathas were there and not a single Maratha fought to save these holy lands, all fled. In the language of Jadunath Sarkar, Marathas took chauth from Jats but Chauth money
@AnshulT25600630@KishaalSingh You are either a complete idiot or have a malicious agenda. But in either case you look like a complete idiot. You have not presented any facts as of now on the contrary I have been doing that and it seems it is a waste of time. Can't debate with you who thinks Rajput is "a clan"
@AnshulT25600630@KishaalSingh Most of Purvanchal was ruled by Rajputs locally the terms Kshatriya/Thakur/Babuan/BabuSaheb used for the community along with Rajput. District bata toh aur specifically bataunga
@AnshulT25600630@KishaalSingh Tiwari tum kaha se ho? Tiwari log Rajasthan mein toh hote nahi hai.
Aur jaha hote hai waha ke Raja toh Rajput hi rahe hai jinhe Thakur/Kshatriya bhi kaha jata hai. Ye dekho Jati Bhaskar mein kya likha hai.
@MamalkatMadar Maharaja Surajmal helped because of pity. It is not a hoax.
My ancestors did not need to be saved from someone by the Marathas. The Rajput chiefs of Awadh were quite capable to save themselves and the people. Safdarjung calls the Chiefs more dangerous than the Marathas.

So an important question has been raised here: why were Rajputana states ready to pay tributes to Mughals but not to Marathas?
The reason is that the Mughal system & Maratha chauth were fundamentally very different. I shall examine the same in this thread
Firstly, the Mughal+
@cbkwgl@j43606K Maratha interest does not equal Hindu interests. Kingdom of Kumaon(Pahadi Rajputs of Uttarakhand) fought against Marathas. Naga Bairagis fought against Marathas. Even Surajmal of Bharatpur did not support them in Panipat. Marathas plundered Bengal for Hindu interests?
