In my column for Hindustan Times, I argue that "While exploiting the world’s contradictions remains the right instinct, the harder task is to make sure India builds enough power to matter when there are fewer contradictions to exploit."
We are at a stage in journalism where the most regular coverage of the Nepal floods by a few reporters is being deemed as extraordinary. They are doing what most reporters used to do once upon a time. But as compared to clownery it now appears extraordinary to us.
The thing is no one is even seen trying. As I have stated multiple times, Pradhan will go and some random person will come. Minister is a figurehead in the systems like the one Modi is running. Every thing is managed at PMO level, so make Prahlad Joshi the minister, won’t change a thing.
They had 12 years to prioritise education, get good guys with academic credentials to gather and plan something that would change India forever. They continued Congress’ stupid system, proudly claiming they haven’t changed a thing.
In these 12 years we would have had the opportunity to train a new set of teachers to teach a new set of curricula and lay foundation for ‘Amrit Kaal’ or ‘Viksit Bharat’ in the real sense of the word.
However, the master of acronyms at @PMOIndia, convinced @narendramodi that a nation of stupid groups of people need the same mugging up and vomiting system of education. Whatever the fuck happened to their talks of Macaulay screwed up our education system.
All the time @BJP4India spokespeople would bark at length about how Congress destroyed India with colonial education and history. The question is what the fuck did you guys do? All the bullshit of RSS and BJP saying education and culture define a civilisation!
I have little to no hope. First time, it could be attributed to inexperience, second time we could say miscalculation, but the same thing the third time is a disastrous negligence.
The most important thing the resignation does is encourage people to speak. Just speak. That despite the power of the state, there is always strength in speaking out.
This change in itself is extremely powerful.
#BREAKING: Modi Govt has shunted out Education Secretary amid student protests. Naresh Pal Gangwar IAS (RJ: 94), Secretary, Animal Husbandry & Dairying has been appointed India’s New Education Secretary. TK Anil Kumar IAS (KN:95) has been appointed as School Education Secretary.
When the Supreme Court of India passes judgment on a joke, you can sleep well knowing that the judiciary is strong and ready to take on any challenge the nation ever faces. Jai Hind.
Here is the truth about the Indus Water Treaty, from a Sydney based think tank and quoted by Pakistani newspapers:
1/ India cannot stop water flowing into Pakistan. We simply dont have the storage capacity
2/-Pakistan’s dam capacity can hold only about 30 days of Indus flow (who's fault is that) and the report notes that any prolonged cut will be disastrous (but we cant do a prolonged cut according to the report!!)
3/the reports talks of reduced water due to climate change ( not our fault and we are equally hit)
4/ Baghliar flushing caused severe hardship to Pakistan because we didnt warn them ( rubbish, they know exactly when this is done in the year, it does however regularly cause a drop in water for about a week; thats it
5/ If you want PROOF and not this nonsense from 'think tanks'look at Pakistani data. the problem is that it has the worst record the world over for maintaining its existing dams, and even worse in carrying out new ones. They inherited the largest canal system from the British ( we had to build our own) and never maintained it. Plus Punjab pinches all the water it can get.
6/A former Pakistani Water commissioner said in public that India was not even utilising the water the treaty allowed it to, and had to flee the country.
IN SUM: This dramatic speeches and threats are as always, to hide thier own incompetence from the public and divert anger. I doubt if the farmers will buy it . But a lie repeated 10000000 times soon becomes the 'truth'
Something feels very odd.
For 75 years, Pakistan's identity was built overwhelmingly around its Islamic past. Suddenly, it's rediscovering the Indus Valley Civilisation, Gandhara, Taxila and every other ancient Indic civilisation that it barely spoke about for decades.
This isn't just about archaeology.
Cities are being renamed. Official events are celebrating a 5,000-year-old civilisation. Pakistan's diplomats are now selling the country as the cradle of one of humanity's oldest civilisations.
At almost the same time, the UK is funding heritage projects in Pakistan through its Cultural Protection Fund.
Maybe it's all genuine. Maybe it's just a coincidence.
But I'd still like to know:
Who decided this sudden shift in Pakistan's national story?
Why now?
How much discussion took place inside British political and policy circles before these projects were approved, especially given the strong representation of British-Pakistanis in public life?
Is the aim simply to preserve heritage, or to gradually cement the idea that the Indus civilisation is exclusively Pakistan's legacy?
History isn't always rewritten by destroying monuments.
Sometimes it's rewritten by deciding who gets to tell the story.
