Strontium aluminate is an aluminate compound with the chemical formula SrAl2​O4​ (sometimes written as SrO⋅Al2​O3​ ).

It is a pale yellow, monoclinic crystalline powder that is odourless and non-flammable. When activated with a suitable dopant (e.g. europium, written as Eu:SrAl2O4), it acts as a photoluminescent phosphor with long persistence of phosphorescence.

This means that it can store light energy and release it slowly over time, creating a glow effect. Resin epoxy is a thermosetting polymer that is created by combining a hardener and a resin.

When the resin and hardener are mixed together, they undergo a chemical reaction that cross-links the polymer chains, making the resin hard and durable. Resin epoxy is widely used as an adhesive, coating, and casting material, as it has excellent mechanical and chemical properties. By combining strontium aluminate and resin epoxy, one can make a ring that glows in the dark. The strontium aluminate provides the phosphorescence, while the resin epoxy provides the shape and strength.

The ring can be charged by exposing it to light, and then it will emit a bright glow for hours. The color and intensity of the glow depend on the type and amount of dopant used in the strontium aluminate.📷
