I've heard from enough Republicans that the crowds really are as empty as the photos. Here's my take:

1. Highjacking America 250 in favor of "our own" Freedom 250 celebration killed the bipartisanship
2. The inaugural-style security restrictions (large bags, tripods, bug spray etc) turned away crowds
3. Having the National Mall walled off is mind-bogglingly disinviting

The Folklife Festival is one of the largest annual events on the Mall. See how the crowds have free movement That ability matters.

Why can't we blame the rain for this past weekend's poor showing? Because there were more people a few blocks away attending the annual Barbecue Battle.

Does anyone have Freedom250 footage that looked as lively as DMV Eats' video here?

Trump has produced phenomenal events. This one was poorly planned and he should air out the team behind it.
