@thejustinwelsh What if you're just starting out?
Talk to & find out the problems faced by:
1. Your potential customers
2. Your competitor's customers
Entrepreneurship is a journey.
Not just an end goal.
To get there, work backward:
1. Think about who you want to be.
2. Figure out the actions needed.
3. Develop yourself for these actions.
4. Set up a growth process.
5. Implement systems to support this process.
Ideas → Market validation
1. Lay out things sequentially.
2. Delve deeper into them.
3. Eventually, this leads to great ideas.
4. However, great ideas are just that - ideas.
5. Their usefulness comes from testing.
6. Experiment with these ideas by interacting with the market.
7. The market decides if an idea is useful.
Selling is getting others to do things for your benefit.
It might not help them.
Sometimes, you win and they lose. This isn't ideal.
Influencing means encouraging others to do something good for both of you.
Everyone wins in this case.
Steven Covey talks about this in his book "Seven Habits of Highly Effective People," where the philosophy is "win-win or no deal."
Know the difference.
It affects how you talk and persuade others.
The greatest skill of the 21st century is the one that has been around since Adam & Eve.
It comes before any other skill people tell you to learn.
It enhances your writing, speaking, designs... everything.
Learn to persuade:

Coaching is:
- instructing people & telling them what to do next similar to coaching in sports, music, writing, math, science, etc.
- watching & observing against a benchmark, identifying variances.
- providing corrective guidance to improve skillsets through practice.
Mentoring is:
- asking questions, not supplying answers.
- helping people think & grow by developing a mindset, not just a skillset.
- helping them become better versions of themselves, competing with themselves, and installing & using the right systems for personal growth.
As a startup founder, you will face tough times.
Think life is working for you, not against you.
Despite hard work, you can fail for many reasons.
To limit these failures, consider:
1. Learning from what happened.
2. Finding mentors who can help you dodge these mistakes.
3. Aiming for growth. Don't dwell on past mistakes.
Understanding that failure has its place is important, but it's not the end.
Looking at negative examples won't necessarily lead you to positive outcomes.
Instead, study why companies succeed.
Companies achieve success in finite ways. Following these can lead to success.
Companies fail in infinite ways. While they're common, it's wise to be aware and steer clear.
The best plan is to follow what successful companies do.
Focusing on success helps you avoid failure.
