Following the violent attack that occurred in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Monday night, B’nai Brith Canada has been monitoring widespread outrage from groups tied to nationalist and white supremacist activity. The attack amplified racial and nationalist violence in the United Kingdom following the recent sentencing of Vickrum Singh Digwa. These incidents have fueled anti-immigration and white supremacist sentiments globally, with groups in Canada now actively encouraging vengeance.

On June 14th, a white supremacist demonstration is scheduled to take place at McGill Parkette in Toronto. This location, in the heart of the city, demonstrates the growing pervasiveness of these groups and their ideologies into mainstream society, and is part of a growing pattern of concerning behaviour that B’nai Brith Canada has witnessed nationally and internationally.

These types of hateful demonstrations are unacceptable. All Torontonians are entitled to feel safe, secure, and united in their city. B’nai Brith Canada has alerted local officials, Toronto Police, and federal law enforcement of this planned demonstration and will continue to work with stakeholders to ensure the city remains a safe and inclusive environment for all.
