The Sigel lab focuses on the principles of metal ion-assisted folding and the structure of functional RNAs. | This group account is managed by students |
There's a joint spotlight collection on Bioinorganic Chemistry between Chemical Science and Dalton Transactions - and our paper on elucidating the structure of G4 quadruplexes (https://t.co/x3AIBjZC7D) has been selected! Check out the collection here: https://t.co/KgY5bRkgfQ
Congratulations to Matteo Lisibach for winning the Semesterpreis of the University of Zurich for his outstanding master thesis entitled "Toward multiple coordinates: Resolving the intrinsic heterogeneity of a group II intron folding and splicing process". Very well done Matteo!
Do you want to assign solution structures of G-quadruplexes using NMR? Maybe this new approach we just published works for you. Congrats to Zhenghui and Carla for this amazing work!

A big shout out to @MuellerChem from Münster as well as Metzler-Nolte Lab from Bochum and Herris-Pawlis Lab from Aachen for putting together such a well-organized, well-caffeinated, and well-scienced conference!
Roland and our PostDoc @LindlarNiko visited the EuroBIC17 in Münster last week. While Roland presented our work on the recently discovered theta ribozymes, Niko spoke about one of his projects from his Ph.D. in the @DaumannL Lab.
We also would like to welcome Lennart Lindner in our group! Lennart started his Ph.D. thesis this month in the smFRET group - we wish successful experiments, good coffee and many new experiences!🙏
The Sigel group is coming out of the summer with a few news:
Besim defended his Ph.D. thesis on illuminating the structure-function relationships in group II introns successfully! 🥳🥳Stay tuned for a publication about this!😉
After 9 months it is time to say goodbye to our Japanese exchange student Minako - thank you for all the work you put in your NMR studies and, of course, the delicious cake!
We scientists have a responsibility to act against climate change. Part of that is advising and educating the public and part of it is keeping our own house in order. So, we applied and got the bronze LEAF - Laboratory Efficiency Assessment Framework - medal!
The Sigel group is starting into summer with two new members: We welcome Benjamin and Matteo for their Master projects! Benjamin is doing a specialized Master in our NMR subgroup while Matteo is doing smFRET studies. We wish few failed experiments and lots of fun in the lab!
We congratulate Federico Held for completing his master thesis with us. Federico introduced a heteroatom into RNA and used this to look at the BCL-2 RNA G-quadruplex. Thanks for the great time Fede!
